These energy and consciousness raising circle dances, formerly known as Sufi Dancing, blend folk-style dancing with words and themes from the world's religions. As in these timeless mystic traditions, the Dances use simple music, lyrics, and movements to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and others. No musical or dance experience of any kind is required and everyone is welcomed to join in. Participation, not presentation, is the focus. No special attire is required, although comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is best. Participants join hands forming a circle with the Dance leader and other musicians in the center. Throughout the evening, the leader teaches the group the words, melody, and movements for the next Dance and often provides some background history about that particular Dance. The teaching is always done from a compassionate heart in a comfortable, quiet, and often sacred setting.

The movements and songs drawn from over 400 Dances include themes of peace (both inner and outer), healing (the Earth, individuals, and the global family), and the celebration of life's great mystery. Dancers focus on peace and harmony creating a sense of solidarity and community while celebrating the underlying unity of all the spiritual traditions of the Earth. By experiencing these many traditions, a greater understanding and appreciation of other cultures, as well as one's own heritage, is gained.

When Dance lyrics include sacred phrases in their own native languages, special attention is given to insure that all have ample opportunity to pronounce the foreign words comfortably and correctly. Leaders usually make a point to have the group first speak and then sing the unfamiliar words. Most Dances are only four lines long and repeated many times, so learning is usually quick and easy - within ten minutes people are moving, singing, and sharing together.

The mood of the Dances is infinitely variable, evoking feelings of love, joy, and compassion. Whether invoking the compassion of the Buddhist Qwan Yin, celebrating the playful energy of Krishna, or experiencing the related emotion of any other spiritual figure, dancers take part in a dynamic relationship between the group, individuals, and the self.

The Dances are an experience that all the world should be fortunate enough to enjoy. Hopefully as the Dances of Universal Peace continue to spread, the world will.

Co-ed friendly (noncompetitive) soccer pickup at Westmoreland Park (SE Portland near Sellwood).
All skill levels welcome, but we ask for play to remain friendly, i.e. no slide tackling or aggressive play.

We play every Sunday at 10 am, rain or shine.

Westmoreland Park is off of 99W/McLoughlin. If you're headed south, turn right
at the sign for the Sellwood bridge just pass the park. Take your first right onto 25th,
then left on Nehalem and right on 23rd. We'll be just North of the 2nd to last baseball field (and
just South of the casting pond). Look for the big white goals (although we don't use them).

If you go to google maps and enter "Westmoreland Park, Oregon" you can get exact
directions. Check out the satellite view.

Hi there.... I am in search or a walking partner for early morning walks in Salmon Creek. I am up at 4:45 in the morning and off to work by 7:00. So I was hoping for something around 5:15am for about an hour. I know that is a pretty small window, but that's all I have at this point. I am done working at 12:30, but then we are into the heat of the day.....evenings are pretty booked with my family. If by some strange chance I find someone in the area who is interested great, then I have a new friend and someone to chat with while getting into shape...if not, I will just keep walking with my IPod.

This class is based on the Interval Training format. It intersperses a cardio burst (jump rope, skippees, etc.) with a strength training exercise (theraband biceps, knee push-ups, planks, etc.) and back and forth with the goal of maintaining a target heart rate (fat burning zone).
It's fun and the hour goes by in a flash. It's probably the most efficient workout there is. The results tend to work really well for women and leave them with tons of strength, stamina and toned muscles (yet still with a feminine look).

We are two young adults, male and female, in our 20's who just moved to Portland a couple weeks ago. We are avid water skiers and wake boarders who need to meet some people with a boat! We would be willing to give money towards gas, bring some beers, teach people some tricks or whatever it takes to get out on the water to shred and chill. I used to teach kids how to ski at a summer camp so we've got some boat-driving skills, and also a good slalom ski.

My friend and I want to find somebody who will have tons of fun and try hard in the San Francisco triathlon this November.

I'm planning on doing the bike leg, my friend is training for the running leg, and we're looking for somebody do swim with us. We want to do the Olympic (international) distances: 1.5k swim, 10k run, and 40k bike. The race is Saturday, November 8. I'll probably drive down there that Thursday or Friday. Hey! I have an 8 person Achilles raft which has seen more white-water action on the Deschutes and lower Clackamas then I can remember. We are two experienced rivermen that have NEVER floated the North Clackamas in their 27 years and are looking for 1 (perhaps 2, 3?) people looking to hook up for a trip down. We would like to enlist persons familiar with this particular run (Three Lynx to North Fork Reservoir) who wouldn't mind extending their knowledge of this part of the river with us and having some laughs!
