Head Start/Oregon Pre-Kindergarten Program
Clackamas County Children's Commission Head Start is hiring a Temporary Pre-School Teacher Assistant. This position is 40 hours a week. This position currently does not have a closure date.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Under the direction of the Teacher, provides and coordinates education services to selected low income and special needs children and their parents. Responsibilities include: Carrying out daily classroom activities and schedules under the guidance of the head teacher; assisting teacher with development of classroom curriculum; and assisting the teacher in directing volunteers in the classroom. Assists the teacher in ensuring all Performance Standards within the Education Component are met and Clackamas County Children’s Commission policies and procedures are followed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
CLASSROOM:
• Completes and maintains children’s observations in partnership with the teaching team.
• Attend and provide childcare at monthly parent meetings.
• Under the direction of the teacher, prepares and gathers materials for instructional purposes.
• Demonstrates effective ways to guide young children.
• In consultation with team members, participates in parent Open House during start up of each year.
• Performs developmental screenings as requested.
• Assists teachers with:
o assessments and individualizations;
o the design and follow through of the daily lesson plan within the classroom;
o keeping spaces neat, clutter free and safe;
o setting up and maintaining a developmentally appropriate classroom environment
o helps maintain records relating to the classroom, such as child observation notes, lesson plan notes, attendance etc.
• Other duties as assigned.
BUS DRIVING: (When needed as requested by the agency.)
• PROGRAM PARTICIPATION AND TEAM MEMBER:
• Arrives at work on time, punctually attends and actively participates in all required activities, meetings, and trainings.
• Required to be a respectful, cooperative, and reliable team member and participant in program activities.
• Projects a professional work image, both in dress and manner.
• Familiar with and adheres to position-related policies and procedures as well as the program’s overarching objectives.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
Required to respect the confidentiality of information about enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other program operations as appropriate.
TRAINING:
•In consultation with Supervisor, develops own professional work goals and training plan. Participates in training as requested.
•Monitors CDL licensing and training requirements, and ensures that current and legal bus driving requirements are maintained at all time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•High School Diploma or GED and minimum of two years experience working in an early childhood education classroom; or an equivalent combination of training and experience with willingness to obtain additional training and CDA.
•Ability to work effectively with low income and special needs children.
•Ability to function effectively in cross cultural situations
•Ability to use a positive approach in directing and redirecting child behavior; and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
•Valid Oregon Driver’s License and insured vehicle available for use on the job or an acceptable alternative.
•A satisfactory driving record for the previous three years, acceptable to the program's insurance company, in compliance with Oregon Minimum standards.
