The SUICIDE BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT groups are self-help, non-sectarian groups ~ although we realize that faith may or may not be helpful. People bereaved by suicide of a friend, spouse, parent, child, co-worker, sibling or other are welcome.

The meetings provide an opportunity for each of us to tell our "story"...to share our grief with a group of people who respect our confidences and understand what grief is like after the suicide of a loved one. The facilitators are persons who have been bereaved because of suicide and have been trained for leadership.

Crystal singing bowls are used to enhance meditation, intuition, relaxation and bodywork. Each one is tuned to a chakra in the body. They are powerful for music therapy, chakra system balancing, emotional release and clearing of people and places. Everyone can benefit from crystal healing singing bowls. Most of us have only a small amount of pure, clear, healing sound in our lives. Our ears no longer get a daily exposure to running streams, bird songs, and the rustling leaves in the forest. We are too often inside, with this beautiful natural music replaced by the hum of computers, the whoosh of the air conditioner, and the high-pitched whine of fluorescent lights. This is the opposite of healing sound! We grow accustomed to tuning out these noises, along with construction, traffic, crowds, and commercials, so that they don't intrude into our space. Since we don't have "earlids" to close, we shut the sound out with our minds, which can get to be an unhealthy habit that extends to tuning out beneficial sound, too. Hi,

Well, I bought myself an acoustic guitar last Christmas and have yet to really buckle down and learn how to play it. I think that if I had a regular guitar group to go to I'd be more disciplined about it.

I took private lessons when I was twelve (I'm 38 now) and so I pretty much have forgotten everything and am starting from the beginning.

If there are any other folks out there who'd like to put their dust-covered guitars to proper use, perhaps we could start a weekly group.

I was initially thinking I'd like to learn classical guitar but I'm open to just about any musical style except country. I might be open to bluegrass.

In the Beginning

I became a nudist in 1989, after swearing for a year there was no way I'd ever even try it, and I meant it! Thanks to a patient, but persistent, friend, I was finally talked into going for what I was told would be a life-changing experience. What an understatement that turned out to be! Of course, the first 10 minutes were terrifying, but by the end of the first day, I never wanted to leave and my life WAS changed forever. I knew I would be a nudist for the rest of my life! It was the most profoundly positive experience I've ever had.

My Fears

Among my many initial excuses for not going were the ones based on the fears I had because I didn't have a "Barbie doll" figure. It was immediately evident that these fears were ungrounded. Within minutes, I felt comfortable. No one was staring at me (another fear gone). I was far from the largest person there and I saw that though some people were larger here or smaller there, everybody is pretty average. They don't call nudism "the great equalizer" for nothing! A friend of mine put it this way, "As for Barbie...who wants plastic?"

Benefits of Nudist Lifestyle

Very soon, the nudity became almost unnoticeable and unexpected benefits of the lifestyle began to surface. Social and economic barriers are gone and people get to know you for who you are. The best thing for me was the increased self-confidence. The body-consciousness issues in my life disappeared and I soon felt more comfortable nude than clothed. I quit worrying about trying to aspire to society's unachieveable "centerfold" shape and could focus on what really mattered, my health and happiness. Nudism creates a bond with people. I am part of an extended family. Whether I am at my own club or traveling and visiting other clubs, I always feel welcome and included. Becoming a nudist was the best thing I've ever done for myself!

My family and I just moved to the Portland area and I am desperately missing the mama's and babies from our past community. What I really desire is to find a group of like minded mama's that want to get together on a weekly basis to discuss things like: pregnancy, nursing, natural childbirth, homebirth, herbs, naturopathics, yoga, organics, politics surrounding motherhood, children and childbirth, feminism etc. Oh, and of course create a nurturing group for our children where they can play and get to know one another (my son LOVES to socialize with other kids!).
Just to detail a bit about myself, I am 29, married, have one toddler and am 5 months pregnant, studying to be a homebirth midwife, am a practicing doula on hiatus, I love yoga, and essentially only use organic foods and products. I am especially passionate about the normality of pregnancy and childbirth and about homebirth and want to spread the new on the importance of both.

If any of my passions seem to fit with yours, please email me and I will get this group going. I am totally willing to be in charge of finding the location and in orchestrating the gatherings. Unless of course, you already know of such a group then I would simply like to join!

Educate Ya, a local Latino-based non-profit, is now recruiting members for their Latino Young Adult Leadership Council!

We are looking for Latin@s ages 18 to 35 to be part of this exciting opportunity.
The goal of the Latino/a Young Adult Leadership Council is to encourage Latino/a young adults to develop their leadership skills and become more involved in their communities. This is a free program run by and for the Latino/a young adults who meet bi-monthly at the Ed�cate Ya office. They receive training on a different aspect of leadership, community involvement, technology, goal management, and employment skills. Council members are required to make a minimum commitment of one year.

The Young Adult Leadership Council is in charge of:

-Attending bi-monthly meetings
-Learning about leadership, personal development, health education and the importance of becoming active members of their community
-Planning Community Service activities and partnering with other organizations
-Fundraising
-Updating Board of Directors on their activities
-Educating the Latino Community on a variety of issues they find important
-Planning educational opportunities for themselves
-Finding ways to encourage other Latinos to get involved in their community

Aussie Rules Football

Portland Power, Aussie Rules Football Club, is looking for new players for the 2008 season. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Aussie Rules combines many of the skills used in rugby, football, soccer and basketball and is great for any well-rounded athlete. We will begin the 2008 season in March. Spring practices will be held at Willamette Park in SW Portland. We practice every Sunday at 3pm and have an optional Tuesday night conditioning work-out. Highlights of the upcoming season will include a 3 game series versus Seattle, the Vancouver B.C. Footy Cup in late July, and the Pacific Northwest Championships in Seattle in September.
Our next practice is this Sunday, July 20 at Willamette Park in SW Portland.
