Each divorce, of course, is different. However, in almost every case, a mediated divorce costs only a fraction of what the traditional, contested divorce cost. In the traditional divorce, especially if there are children, or when support is in disagreement, each party will pay their respective lawyer several thousands of dollars before it is all over. Often tens of thousands. The initial retainer for a traditional divorce in the Portland area is often upwards of $3,500.00, for each person. That�s just the amount that you pay up-front.

The cost for my mediation service is a fraction of that. Most often the cost for my mediation service is $1,000 for each party, about one half the cost each of you would pay your own lawyer, just for his or her retainer. It's your money. Look at Ross Island Bridge, all the big money spent to overhaul the bridge and the waits and extended closure. Yet now Ross Island Bridge has a more narrow sidewalk than before. All the pedestrian improvements that were planned initially to connect the SE got scrapped to make the lanes wider for the cars! They even put up a steal rail to protect cars but nothing for bikes nor pedestrians! The brave few bicycles and pedestrians on the sidewalk contend with two way passing on the only one sidewalk barely wide enough to handle two way pedestrian traffic, even harder to pass two way when you are both on bike. And if that is not bad enough, if you are riding into SW Portland, you then have to go through two difficult crossings risking your life first with all the cars wanting to turn right through you to get onto I-5, and then it's the cars that have to go through you to get onto Front Ave. and of course the fact that there is no bike lane nor shoulder for a long stretch through this part of town! Too bad since it is so easy and convenient to get to Portland State University, south part of town, or to OHSU from the Ross Island Bridge..to Alpenrose for riding, maybe out to PCC Sylvania if you brave Barbur Blvd's so called bike paths (again, a roadway not very hospitable to pedestrian nor bike traffic). Gotta love riding a bike or even trying to walk on Barbur! Sometimes you have a bike lane, or a sidewalk, then you have 6 inches of white line, and the shoulder is a steep mountain. How do handicap people navigate through Barbur to the bus stops? You can't even find cross walks or lights to get across Barbur when the Bike lane or shoulder really disappears. NOT GOOD for bikes and pedestrians!

Do you need to file a probate? But you don't want to pay the high cost of attorney-assisted probate?

Did you realize that a formal probate proceeding can often be accomplished without the need to waste tens of thousands of dollars on a lawyer? That's because probate is primarily a matter of filing the proper forms and going through the proper procedures at the proper time. In fact, in a normal probate, there are normally no court hearings or actual legal representation needed.

Most studies show that the average cost of retaining an attorney to handle the probate can end up costing anywhere from 3% to 10% of the total estate value. Despite this however, almost all of the work involved with the probate, will not be actually handled by the attorney you choose to hire, but instead by by his or her paralegal assistant, who will actually be doing the document preparation and filing. In fact after your initial meeting with your attorney, the chances are that you will actually never see or speak to that lawyer again!

Why not do what that attorney does then? Hire your own legal assistant to help you? Professional divorce mediation reduces the overall stress and cost of an ended marriage. Most often the cost for my mediation service is $1,000 for each party, about one half the cost each of you would pay your own lawyer, just for his or her retainer. It's your money. Professional divorce mediation reduces the overall stress and cost of an ended marriage. It eases the disruption to your family and puts the two of you (and your children) on the road toward building your futures.

If you are considering a divorce or separation, and you want to choose a process that reduces the expense and emotional trauma of the traditional divorce, and if you and your spouse agree that what is most important is the best interests of your children, then you need to seriously consider divorce mediation.

WHO AM I AND WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?

My name is Lance Perdue.

I offer an affordable service called Divorce Mediation Service. I can help you with the many requirements of a divorce: child custody, visitation (now called parenting time), child and spousal support (alimony), property and debt division, and retirement division. You, your spouse and I can do this together in less than half the time and a fraction of the cost of the traditional lawyer-contested divorce.

I am an Oregon attorney with over 25 years experience in family law and mediation. By "experience" I mean I have been both a mediator and a trial lawyer in Oregon courtrooms for over 20 years, i.e, a practicing lawyer who knows what the law is and what the Oregon courts require in the divorce documents.

WHAT DOES MEDIATION COST?

Each divorce, of course, is different. However, in almost every case, a mediated divorce costs only a fraction of what the traditional, contested divorce cost. In the traditional divorce, especially if there are children, or when support is in disagreement, each party will pay their respective lawyer several thousands of dollars before it is all over. Often tens of thousands. The initial retainer for a traditional divorce in the Portland area is often upwards of $3,500.00, for each person. That is just the amount that you pay up-front.

The cost for my mediation service is a fraction of that. Most often the cost for my mediation service is $1,000 for each party, about one half the cost each of you would pay your own lawyer, just for his or her retainer. It's your money. You can spend it on two separate lawyers, or you can mediate with an experienced lawyer, and save thousands of dollars.

All the pedestrian improvements that were planned initially to connect the SE got scrapped to make the lanes wider for the cars! They even put up a steal rail to protect cars but nothing for bikes nor pedestrians! The brave few bicycles and pedestrians on the sidewalk contend with two way passing on the only one sidewalk barely wide enough to handle two way pedestrian traffic, even harder to pass two way when you are both on bike. And if that is not bad enough, if you are riding into SW Portland, you then have to go through two difficult crossings risking your life first with all the cars wanting to turn right through you to get onto I-5, and then it's the cars that have to go through you to get onto Front Ave. and of course the fact that there is no bike lane nor shoulder for a long stretch through this part of town! Too bad since it is so easy and convenient to get to Portland State University, south part of town, or to OHSU from the Ross Island Bridge..to Alpenrose for riding, maybe out to PCC Sylvania if you brave Barbur Blvd's so called bike paths (again, a roadway not very hospitable to pedestrian nor bike traffic). Gotta love riding a bike or even trying to walk on Barbur! Sometimes you have a bike lane, or a sidewalk, then you have 6 inches of white line, and the shoulder is a steep mountain. How do handicap people navigate through Barbur to the bus stops? You can't even find cross walks or lights to get across Barbur when the Bike lane or shoulder really disappears. NOT GOOD for bikes and pedestrians!

I have been mediating since 1985 and know that I can provide a safe and comfortable way for all people involved in the dispute to talk about what is at issue and what is important to them as part of a solution and then find a solution that works for everyone involved and put it into written form.
