The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), an award-winning educational resource and one of the nation’s leading science museums is seeking Camp Cooks to prepare meals for campers enrolled in science camps and adventures. Camp Cooks will run the kitchen, plan and cook nutritional, substantial meals from scratch, order food, understand vegetarian requirements, cook for up to 100 people in a camp setting and perform general cleanup. Exempt position with benefits, scheduled February through November. Work schedule varies depending on programming.
Positions are available at OMSI’s Pacific Marine Science Camps with a focus on coastal ecology and geology for school groups at Camp Kiwanilong near Astoria in the spring. During the summer, many of the coastal camps are bus or van based ranging from the San Juan Islands in Washington State to the Redwoods of Northern California. Several weeks of residential science camps are also held at Camp Kiwanilong in August. One to two-week long research experiences are included in the summer programs.
Ideal candidate must have a food handler’s license, prior experience cooking for camps, schools or other large groups and valid Drivers License.
Pre-employment and/or pre-duty checks, such as criminal background check, reference checks, American Camp Association (ACA) background checks (& on annual basis), requirements in the MVR Policy including passing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and Alcohol & Drug Test for non-CDL Drivers Policy, including pre-duty drug test are required.
