Check shelters in person immediately and often, every day, if possible, even those that aren't particularly near you. Both Mulntomah and Clark counties have ordinances that permit people to take "trespassing" cats to the pound, and many, many wind up in those places; I have seen cats from as far away as SW Portland, Clackamas and Washington Counties in the county shelter in Troutdale; your cat could be anywhere in the region. Ask to see all areas where there are cats: intake, feral, kennels, euthanasia room, hospital...Oregon Humane Society has a stray cat room you have to ask to see. Don't rely on information you get over the phone, or presume ID or microchips will be checked. Often they aren't. Do your own leg work and don't take shelter workers words for anything.
Put up posters, talk to neighbors and vets in your area in case the kitty is trapped in a garage or shed or has been injured. Check online websites like Dove Lewis and Petfinder.com (And I hear there are new websites that help searchers). There also are K-9 search dogs for hire in the area.
