Clatsop Community College, a public, two-year institution, located in Astoria, Oregon, serving students and communities in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, has an opening in for an Upward Bound Coordinator/Tutor Coordinator.
Assignment: 1480 hours annually.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Upward Bound and Talent Search Project Director, the Upward Bound Coordinator/Tutor Coordinator will develop partnerships and provide tutors for Upward Bound and Talent Search students in 6th-12th grades and will provide academic support for Upward Bound and Talent Search students.
This is a grant funded position.
Essential Duties
1. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer and paid tutors.
2. Coordinate with local high schools and CCC faculty to provide tutors for Upward Bound and Talent Search students.
3. Implement in-school tutoring programs.
4. Serve as liaison between high school counselor and Upward Bound and Talent Search students.
5. Provide academic and career guidance to Upward Bound and Talent Search students.
6. Ensure assessment in compliance with federal grant regulations including use of Blumen data system to record and track student data; understand and comply with all Upward Bound/Talent Search grant requirements.
7. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.
Qualifications
• Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two full-time years of experience in educational program planning, educational scheduling, literacy, tutoring programs is required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience clearly matching these requirements may be accepted.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement curriculum and training
• Ability to recruit, supervise, and train a volunteer and paid staff
• Sufficient knowledge of computer software applications to complete data entry, word processing and database projects
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to speak in public, the ability to train; and the ability to write reports
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to form collaborative partnerships with external groups such as a variety of businesses, social service agencies, local high schools, state and local committees
• Ability to understand and comply with specific program/grant rules, regulations and requirements
• Ability to recognize new opportunities and initiate new programs, including actively promoting Upward Bound and Talent Search in the community
• Sensitivity and understanding of the diversity found among students and staff
Physical Requirements
• Required to visit county schools frequently; must provide own transportation; and a drivers' license. Must be sufficiently mobile to visit sites.
