You say the "employee" of the perch was using pliers on a Macaw that was having an argument with him? First off - The man with the ponytail is the owner. Second - The Macaw he was playing with was his pet and loves to play and if you knew Macaws you would be able to tell. Third - I have been a customer of the Perch for many years and have NEVER seen them abuse,neglect,or mistreat a bird either for sale or as a customers pet. The owners of the Perch would not spend thousands of dollars on raising, feeding, vet care, and housing of birds and then abuse them to make them aggressive and unsellable. The Greys you speak of are babies and if you would do your homework you would know Greys are naturally wary of new people and react using the only defense they have,their beak, to show their dislikes. I have African Greys and each one has a very distinct dislike of ANYONE they don't know trying to pick them up. My Greys are mature and are much more confident then a baby Grey.
There is a warning at the front of the store that says to be careful of the birds because ALL birds MAY at some point bite because you are a STRANGER to them.
The price of the bird food is because of the quality. If people want to feed their birds good quality foods that are made just for their type of bird that gives them a better life that's great. If people want to feed their birds low quality sunflower mix foods let them go to Petco or Petsmart or where ever YOU recommend to get it because no one is forcing them to shop at the Perch. I get my products at Mike and Dona's because they are honest straight forward people who know birds.

10 chubby, wiggly, puppies took over my house 5 are still here! I love them dearly but it's time for them to go! Both of the pitbull parents are able to get papers (I just never saw the need) the mom is a sleek red-nosed buff and the dad is a seal gray blue-nose with a big white square head.

I AM NOT A BREEDER! But accidents happen, and now they've taken over and are eating me out of house and home! I would like them to go to good loving homes. They have been around kids all their life and are used to bathes and are getting used to going potty outside (although I wouldn't go as far as to say the are potty-trained yet). They have all had their first set of shots and de-wormed.

The overall population that is.......

Unfortunately for the majority of situations, those who support the "trade" of $50-$200 "dogs" just as "rehoming" are hypocrites to the true cause. $50-$200 can be A LOT of money to the "Non-Breeder" which you are then supporting the trade of "Backyard Breeders" low investment and irresponsible breeding along with poor genetics.

Unless these dogs are literally "on their way to the pound", allowing the "trade" as such here on CL is dramatically adding to the "Over Population" problem, plus encouraging poor genetic breeding. It makes the "cheap" or "inexpesive" "rehomed" dogs easy to come by unheathy and disposable.

Most all well rounded sound minded people feel that stopping breeding all together is unrealistic, thus it will eliminate the domestic dog and their individual breeds. It's not the fault of good breeders as to why there are so many shelter dogs.

Good breeders screen their buyers and their dogs bloodlines. Good buyers screen their breeders and their dogs. More thought goes into a purchase of higher dollar amount from a buyer plus the likelihood of getting a higher quality dog.

Leave the dog trade to the experts, good breeders who earn their money and shelters where dogs actually need homes.

I come here because they don't allow this, enough excuses about rehoming when you know you are selling, enough excuses about why you are charging a rehoming fee for an animal that you have not spayed or neutered. Yes i will flag ads that are clearly disregarding the rules of this board. Spay/ neuter before you advertise, may arrangements to have animal dropped at vet and the new home to go in and pay for spay/neuter before the animal is released if you can't afford it- but don't charge a rehoming fee and not spay/ or neuter your pet. It'll end up in a byb, or flippers hands particularly small breeds, or people advertising purebred and registered! Be responsible

Our family has fallen on some very tough times and are going to have to move and we can't take "Lou" with us. Lou is a tri-colored beagle, about 5 years old, and up to date on his vaccinations, he is not neutered though.He is the sweetest, most affectionate dog that I have ever been around. He is wonderful with all people and especially little children (We have a 9, 3 and 18mt. old) We would prefer for him to go to a home that has a large yard for him to play in and a fenced yard is a must! Searching for excellent home for my two female guinea pigs that I have had for two years. They are great and I do not want to give them up, but I am at University and they are back home with my parents getting little attention. They are very sweet cavies and are very attached to each other. One is white, long-haired with red eyes. She requires a little extra grooming care, bathing up to twice a month, and hair trimming. One is black with orange, and relatively short haired. She requires less care though both need their nails trimmed and to be groomed at least monthly. They are both pretty active, though one is more vocal than the other, and both are a little skittish about being held still. Well Behaved and would work well with children and adults.

My hope is to find a home with someone who knows a little about guinea pigs and is prepared to care for them forever. Guinea pigs take considerable work and I am not looking to part with them to just anybody. Please let me know when you reply what your experience is with them or other animals, what animals you have already, where there cage would be positioned in your home, and who would primarily be caring for them. I am also asking a $30 dollar rehoming fee to ensure a good home and to cover the cost of their food, relatively large covered cage (which cost me a ton to get handmade, the dimensions are: 20 1/4 inches wide, 38 1/4 inches in length, and 17 1/4 inches tall), water bottle, and pigaloo.

You may reason that because of his age, the puppy or kitten you're considering buying may have not been at the breeding facility very long. You may think that by buying him, you will give him a good home, so where's the harm? The harm is in perpetuating the conditions under which the animal was bred.

By purchasing a pet, you put money in the hands of the animal miller, thus encouraging him or her to continue breeding animals.

If you are looking for a purebred companion animal, youll find many by searching Petfinder.com. Many breed rescue groups post their adoptable pets on Petfinder.com, and a surprising number of pets that end up in shelters are purebred.

There are reputable animal breeders. Generally, they do not sell on CRAIG'S LIST because they want to insure that the animals they raise go into good homes. They care about their animals and screen potential buyers. They track the pet as he goes to a home in order to monitor any potential health problems that may develop in the bloodline. If you do decide to pursue a reputable breeder, you can contact your local breed rescue club for information.

Thank you everyone who posted information that I can easily get my self online. I have tried to look for dogs on here but everytime I see postings like these I think that maybe this site is for people who have no idea how to use the internet. I have looked and every ad that you see for Filas encourage the new owner to really research the breed. Maybe your issue is that the ads are too complicated, maybe the breeders should dummy it way down (but then do they want those people buying their pups, any dog this large requires a competent owner). If they can't find the information that you posted here online for themselves how will they ever find the dog food isle at the store. (maybe a topic for your next posting???). Anyway thanks again for treating us all like idiots, its a miracle we even found this site!

I have a cat that I absolutely love and adore. I have had him for three years. He is fixed and suddenly he started spraying on furniture. I took him to the vet and there is no medical reason for this. I have used sprays from the pet store and a cat litter that is used to attract them back to their box. Nothing has changed and i am getting fed up with it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am fostering two kitties who are ready to go their forever home. Massimo is the tabby and Miley is the little black cat. Massimo is about 10 months old and Miley is about 4 months old. Massimo is a good ol' buddy, always waiting for me when I come home from work and is eager to sit on my lap while I watch tv. Massimo had his tail amputated a few months ago because it was completely broken. We're not sure how he ended up with a broken tail but nonetheless, it had to be removed. Luckily, he seems to care less. Miley is still finding her way - learning from Massimo. She loves to nudge up to your face when she can get to it. She likes to try and steal Massimo's spot while he's sitting on my lap. These two love to play and chase each other. Mariner is a 5-year old nuetered male cat in need of a new home. Mariner is an affectionate and people friendly cat and will accompany his owners around the house and the yard. He loves being brushed while eating and that helps keep the fur under control. He's an indoor-outdoor cat, usually indoors most of the time in winter and outdoors a lot in warmer weather. He doen't need a litter box at all and prefers going outside all year around, and never goes in the house. He's a mouser (and will need occasional pilling and flea treatments), so if you need a farm cat to keep things under control, he's your man! He has been living with a small dog and gets along fine. His best home would be a somewhat rural setting, but right now we live in the city next to a busy street and he's doing ok here too, although there are some woods out back he can romp in.

Her people had moved and left her behind pregnant. 10 days later she gave us kittens. I can't keep mom because of my daughters allergies but I wanted her to be warm and comfortable. If you decide to adopt Saundra she is approx. 10 months old. She is a beautiful tortoise shell medium hair. I will give you 40 pounds of dry cat food, a case of wet cat food and a liter box. I will also set up a $50 account at the veterinarian of your choice to have Saundra spayed.

Her kittens include 3 girls and 1 boy. They are liter box trained and eating solid foods. They will come with a liter box and kitten food. There are 3 striped loveys and 1 dark tortoise shell. A Fila Brasileiro may be right for you.

If you don't want to deal with...

* A huge dog who takes up a lot of space in your house and car
* A heavy dog who wants to sit on your feet, lie on your lap, and lean his weight against your leg
* Rowdiness and exuberant jumping when young
* Destructiveness when bored or left alone too much
* Extreme distrust of strangers to the point where he detests being touched by anyone outside his family
* Providing tons of socialization to avoid indiscriminate aggression
* Aggression toward other animals
* Strong-willed mind of his own, requiring a confident owner who can take charge
* Shedding
* Snorting, snuffling, wheezing, grunting, loud snoring
* Slobbering and drooling
* Gassiness (flatulence)
* Serious health problems and a short lifespan
* Legal liabilities (public perception, future breed bans, insurance problems, increased chance of lawsuits)

A Fila Brasileiro may not be right for you.

If I were considering a Fila Brasileiro...

My major concerns would be:

1. Providing the proper balance of exercise. Young Fila Brasileiros need enough exercise to keep them lean and healthy, but not so much that their soft growing bones, joints, and ligaments become over-stressed and damaged. Adult Fila Brasileiros need more exercise to keep them in shape, but not in hot or humid weather for fear of overheating. The proper amount of exercise can be difficult to regulate in giant breeds.

Since you have to minimize their exercise, young Fila Brasileiros can be very rambunctious. They will romp with uncoordinated gawkiness all over your house. You need to substitute extra quantities of companionship and supervision. Otherwise, left alone, young Fila Brasileiros become bored and destructive -- and their powerful jaws can literally destroy your living room.

2. Providing enough socialization. Of all breeds, Fila Brasileiros have the most extreme aversion to strangers. They need extensive exposure to friendly people so they learn to recognize the normal behaviors of "good guys." Then they can recognize the difference when someone acts abnormally. Without extensive socialization, they may be suspicious of everyone, and in such a powerful and determined dog, this can be dangerous. Some Filas go in the opposite direction -- without enough socialization, they become fearful of strangers, which can lead to defensive biting.

If you have children, I do not recommend a Fila Brasileiro. Young Fila Brasileiros (up to about two years old) can be bulls in a china shop. When they romp and jump, they do so with great vigor, and things can go flying, including people. In addition, Fila Brasileiros may try to protect their own children from other children, which could lead to tragedy if kids are simply roughhousing and your Fila Brasileiro decides to stop it. With such a massive dog, I wouldn't take the risk.

3. Animal aggression. Some Fila Brasileiros will not tolerate another dog of the same sex. Some have strong instincts to chase and seize cats and other fleeing creatures. If anything goes wrong in the breeding, socializing, training, handling, or management of this breed, it is capable of seriously injuring or killing other animals.

4. The strong temperament. Fila Brasileiros are not Golden Retrievers. They have an independent mind of their own and are not pushovers to raise and train. Some Filas are willful, obstinate, and dominant (they want to be the boss) and will make you prove that you can make them do things. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say.

To teach your Fila to listen to you, "Respect Training" is mandatory. My Fila Brasileiro Training Page discusses the program you need.

5. Shedding. For such a shorthaired dog, the Fila Brasileiro sheds more than you might think. The short, coarse hairs come off on your hands, and stick tenaciously to your carpeting, upholstery, and clothing.

6. Fila Brasileiro sounds. Many Fila Brasileiros snort, grunt, and snore loudly.

7. Slobbering. Most people are not prepared for how much Filas slobber and drool, especially after eating or drinking. When they shake their heads, you will literally be toweling saliva and slime off your clothes, furniture, and walls.

8. Gassiness (flatulence) that can send you running for cover. Fortunately, Fila Brasileiros who are fed a natural diet of real meat and other fresh foods have much less trouble with gassiness. See my Fila Brasileiro Health Page for more information.

9. Serious health problems. The lifespan of a Fila is short and an alarming number are crippled by bone and joint diseases and/or succumb to cancer in middle age.

To keep this breed healthy, I strongly recommend following all of the advice on my Fila Brasileiro Health Page.

10. Legal liabilities. Fila Brasileiros may be targeted for "banning" in certain areas, or refusal of homeowner insurance policies. Your friends and neighbors may be uncomfortable around this breed. In this day and age, the legal liabilities of owning any breed that looks intimidating and has a history as a guard dog should be seriously considered. People are quicker to sue if such a dog does anything even remotely questionable.

Frankly, most Fila Brasileiros are "too much dog" for the average household. This is a serious working dog with tremendous strength. Very few people really have the knowledge, facilities, or skills necessary to manage this breed.

Not all Fila Brasileiros are alike!

* There are energetic Fila Brasileiros, and placid Filas.

So we have reached a terrible fate in our society with losing our homes due to lack of employment available, employment wages and hours being cut etc. And it is effecting everyone and everything, including our beloved animals. What many seem to do on here is pass judgement to those who are desperately trying to find homes for their pets anyway possible. Shelters are full, foster homes only take your pets if they are fixed etc. At one time I would take in any animal I could if it needed help. I would even take them to the vet. I did not have a list of requirements as so many do here. Because the true meaning of rescue is just that. For those of you out there who truely love animals and want to help and if you have the means DONT PUT STIPULATIONS. These are lives that need help in a terrible way. In this country there is no reason at all life should do without. I totally disagree with putting animals down do to over population. There needs to be a clinic that is a non-profit that only assists in spaying and neutering pets that people can no longer keep. And for those who say you shouldnt have had them in the first place if you cant even afford to fix them, I say thats a ignorant thing to say. Our society is over populated with humans as well, with several just taking up space but we dont just go out and execute them. Life is life, right and if you truely want to help than HELP! I would love to see a non-profit open up to assist in my idea of spaying and neutering every animal that needs it. And doing away with putting down animals at the shelter because of over population. Fix them and let them run free, they are animals. We took over all their space and now are killing them off, who are we and what right do we have to do that?

I have 3 snow white cats that I need to find homes for immediately. They are 10 months old, born January 27 of this year. I have 2 boys, one is a short hair, the other a long hair. They both have yellow green eyes. Have 1 female with bright blue eyes, and a short hair. (They are all litter mates.) These kitties have been inside since they were born. Very friendly and loving. Two of them are harness trained so you can actually take them for walks. They all get along well children, and smaller dogs. Circumstances out of my control have put me in a position to give them up. I must find homes for them by tomorrow. My children and I will miss them deeply.

Nellie is a Beautiful White face/gray pearl. Born in our home approximately 7/3/04, hand fed & hand tame. Very interactive, affectionate, sweet, gentle and loving when she was young. As the babies got older she and one of her fore brothers became more independent and less willing to cuddle & have their heads rubbed. We had 13 birds at that time and did not have enough time to devote to each bird.

SHE DOESENT BITE, She will get on my finger to go to bed (Back in her cage) after being out for a while, but otherwise she doesn�t like to be handled. She will tolerate being handled but doesn�t like it.

I think She needs a new home that is calm and quiet where she will be given the individual ONE-on-ONE ATTENTION she deserves, from someone that has the time to spend with her and no other birds.

It is not that we don�t Love them but We must reduce the number of birds in our home.

A Cockatiel�s Life expectancy is about 20 years. They are Very interactive, affectionate, and loving pets, they Like to be with people!

Hi everyone,

I have a darling collie/retriever mix that I'm currently fostering and she's available for adoption through the Troutdale Animal Shelter.
They're saying she is 2-3 years old and is a spunky, fun and super gentle and loving dog. She was found as a stray near the airport, totally emaciated, so I've been feeding her a ton and getting her ready for her forever home.

She is crate trained and potty trained - not even one accident.
She sleeps soundly in her crate by my bed every night.
She loves the car and hops right into the back, lays down and hangs out until ready to get out.
She loves to run and does best at that pace on a leash, but long walks and hikes are great too!
She knows, sit, stay, down and can high 5.
Over the past week, I've been socializing her as much as possible. She is curious and a little spooked by noises which is no surprise since she was a stray, but when she meets new people, she is all kisses and is very treat motivated.

Her adoption fee is $120 and includes:

Okay, my husband is losing his job so we are wanting/needing to simplify life at our house.....So, the kids stay but the dog has to go! He has his good points and his faults. BAD POINTS: He has stranger anxiety so just view this as a rescue....we have had him for over 4 years and he is a great dog! But he will not do well in a house with small children. Our kids he trusts and knows and we have never had any trouble with him with them, but we have had "stranger" kids over and he is just nervous...so, he gets very jumpy, barky, and nips. He loves to chase birds and bark at them but he is NOT an overall barky dog...just when the doorbell/knocks or if he hears something he thinks he needs to investigate. He LOVES his people ALOT....he wants to be near us all the time....and is so very smart....he does pretty good with other dogs, but gets tired if they always want to jump on him / play etc.....so, if you have another timid dog they might get along well, but not sure..... Another good or bad thing is he REQUIRES regular grooming....we have a great groomer in Camas, WA....but you could find your own also.....he is a non-shedding hypo-allergenic breed....that is why we got him originally because I am allergic to pet dander....and only if I bathe him or he licks me do I react at all.....so I would say very easy on allergies. His GOOD POINTS: Totally house-broken....never any accidents, he was nuetered as a young pup, so no annoying mating activity, I have all his records from our local vet.....Overall he is a great dog, but the transition to a new home will be challenging....as he takes awhile to adjust....but we would prefer to get him to a new home ourselves, rather then put him at the humane society and let them.....He is a nervous, little guy....but I don't think he will ever outgrow the stranger thing without alot of work....we just put him in his kennel when company came that had small children....he needs to be managed. He is kennel crate trained.....and will make someone a very nice pet as long as you don't allow him to be around small children. Go to youtube and search by Coton de Tulear and see how smart and cute these dogs are.....he is every bit that....just nervous and gets into attack mode when around strangers.....He will take a week or two to adjust to new family....and will need a firm hand in the beginning, a gentle but firm pack leader.....he is really a great dog.....but doesn't walk on a leash without barking his head off at strangers.....he is good for someone who doesn't want to take him anywhere, but is home alot.....he is as loyal and loving as any dog...... So, call or e-mail us and we will get back to the candidates that look promising.....we would like to find a new home this week, or the pound it will have to be.....$50 and a home visit is all we ask for him......He comes with the usual, food, crate, toys etc......Call 360-Eight23-94Five9....or e-mail through CL link above..... We have a 1 yr old purebred female chihuahua that needs a home, her name is Mila and she is a deer chihuahua. Our landlord found out that we had her and we are not supposed to, only can have one dog and we have 2, so its either get rid of her or get evicted... She is a very good dog, listens well, has a little problem with potty training, she will go on puppy pads and out side, needs someone that will be home all day. She demands a lot of attention and loves to cuddle. No papers on her, and she just had a litter of puppies 2 months ago, if you are interested please email back....
