My one bedroom condo at the beach for the week of Febraury 12th 2010-february 19th. This condo sleeps 4-6 people. This unit has 2 full baths full kitchen living room and large balcony that looks out on the ocean. The bedroom has 2 queen beds and there is a pull out couch in the living room. Kitchen is fully equipped for making meals and has full size appliances. Dining table will seat 6 people comfortably. Ottercrest has a heated swimming pool, hot tubs, tennis courts and a great beach. Ottercrest is 10 miles north of Newport Oregon and less than 3 hours from Portland. Images show layout of units. It is actually 2 units in one. Sorry no pets allowed at Ottercrest
$495 is the total cost for the unit including cleaning fee. I will require a small damage deposit that is totally refundable. Fully furnished condo for $70 a night what a deal!

Thanksgiving

I swear the time goes faster and faster with each passing year. Thanksgiving was even a week later this year, but it still snuck up on me!

We have most of the homes/cabins rented for the Holiday but still have a few left if you are feeling the need to get out of town. Let us know if we can help you with your quick get away!

Today, I was fortunate enough to get to go to the kids' classrooms and volunteer working with them. As I was walking down the hallway, I took a minute to look at their art displays and what the kids are thankful for.

Most talked about having friends, their dog, their favorite toys, etc., but one little body was more philosophical. They we thankful for warm clothes, warm food, and a warm hug from their Grandma. It was simple things that alot of us take for granted each day, but it touched my heart nonetheless.

We hope you and yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving, and that you find yourself surrounded with warm clothes, warm food, and warm hugs.

Our stay at Moonshine Creek was nothing short of AMAZING. We will have memories to last a lifetime. Upon arriving, it was getting dark and I was not sure where I was going, but had my handy directions provided by you. When we drove up, the lights were on and it felt like we were home. Warm and inviting, a beautiful cabin with everything we needed. The kingsize bed was incredibily comfortable. In the evening we stoked the fireplace and enjoyed the warmth it brought to the entire cabin. The stars at night were incredible! I did not know that so many stars exsisted. Every detail was thought of at the Moonshine Creek Cabin....

We returned home last night after three wonderful nights at cabin #6. I hadn't been to Wallowa Lake since I was about 6 and my wife, son (16), and his friend (turned 17 at the cabin) had never been there. The cabin was perfect. Just like staying in someones home instead of a rental cabin! The only thing that could have been better was if it was near the river or right on the lake. Every detail was thought of. Craig

Girls Weekend

I had the opportunity to spend a night up at Wallowa Lake last weekend with some of my best girlfriends that I have known for basically my whole life. What a fantastic weekend we had laughing about the days of high school, discussing our current lives which are wrapped around kids, family, jobs, etc., and where we were headed for in the future with politics, kids growing up, jobs, etc. I think we truly touched on about everything on the spectrum of life, and it occurred to me how truly lucky I am to have these girlfriends in my life.

We stayed at the Ruby Peak Haven home and really got a full appreciation for what a great winter we have had so far! The trip up to the house was easily done in a 4x4 vehicle, and as we climbed up the mountain to the house, we were impressed with the quantity of snow. There has to be 3-4 feet of snow up there! We keep the road and driveway plowed so we always have access to the house, and where the snow has been piled for containment, it is probably 6 feet tall! The trees have a heavy layer of snow on them, and the roof has probably 2 feet of snow on it as well. It truly is a winter wonderland up there!

Our day was spent mostly playing games, eating, enjoying a few cocktails, watching a movie, going for walks, taking pictures, and a quick snowball fight before the ones that started the fight dashed into the house for their protection. The Ruby Peak Haven house fit our needs perfectly! There was plenty of room for all of us to stretch out, but also plenty of sleeping area as well. Each of us had our own bed, and plenty of space to do our own thing.

On the drive home from Wallowa Lake, I thought about how truly fortunate I am. I live in Wallowa County, have a great husband, 2 children that I adore, great family and friends and a job that I truly enjoy. I am blessed. It really was a fantastic weekend!

In earlier entries, I have posted bits and pieces out of a book called ABOUT WALLOWA COUNTY. This weeks entry is kind of funny, and scary at the same time! I hope you enjoy it!

A Drive to Troy, by Mary Louise Carlson

Myrtle Moore turned 16 in 1944. One day in April, her father, Raymond Moore, brought her home from Wallowa High School by way of Powwatka Ridge Road. It was dark by the time they reached Powwatka. Suddenly the headlights went out. Her father got out of the car, walked a few feet, returned to the car, and drove that distance, repeating this until they reached the Grande Ronde River and the safety of home. Myrtle never liked to use any of the roads after this incident.

If you have ever taken this Powwatka Ridge Road, you will fully appreciate this story. If you haven't taken it, maybe on your next visit to Wallowa County, you can take some time to do this, and appreciate what poor Myrtle experienced!
