Hi!

I have this great new blog up called IExploitOthers which is in need of talented and motivated freelancers! Contributors will be required to post at least 5-10 entries daily, each of which will be at least 500 words, and will be dripping with significance, depth, poignancy, and humor. Extra *awesome* credit for those who post 10 or more daily! This is hottest thing in PDX since the last failed e-zine! No pay at all, whatsoever. Don't ask. But, TRUST ME, this site is about to POP -- you'll have big-name editors from SFO, NYC, Esquire, GQ, Harper's, etc. bowled over by your righteous shit by the LATEST next week. Just start spending all of your time writing for me. NOW. Hurry up and fill my shit site with content.

... Please respect the freelancer. These types of posts need to go into the ACTIVITIES thread. Because they're certainly not GIGS.

Guest Writers for Local Music Blog (Portland)

I'm looking for semi-regular contributors to my music blog. So far the blog has only functioned as a dumping ground for songs and videos I've found interesting and wanted to share with others. But I've recently purchased a domain name and am sprucing up the ol' blog to include music reviews and news about upcoming events, album releases, etc. Much as I love to write, I'd like the readers to experience a style and opinion outside of my own and this is where you come in. If you're passionate about Portland music, attend a lot of shows, and have a knack for writing then I'd urge you to give me a holler. I'm looking for someone to contribute once a week or so, possibly more once it gets off the ground.

This is a non-paying gig, purely for folks who want to spread the word about the boss music scene here in Portland.

Here is a link to the site as it is (and as I said before, I've just bought a domain so this will all get revamped soon): http://pdxmusic.tumblr.com

The Deli Portland is looking for bloggers! (Portland Metro)

The Deli Magazine's Portland blog site (www.thedelimagazine.com/portland) is looking for music bloggers to help cover the Portland Metro underground/emerging artists community. What does that mean? Well, it means we are in need of those of you who go to a lot of local shows, dig local bands, support independent music, and who have an itch to write about it. Is that you? Do tell.

The Deli Portland is part of a network of blog sites, which includes coverage of underground and emerging bands from Nashville, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and more. We include bi-weekly Band of the Month polls, monthly featured album reviews, but are in need of getting more blogs posted on a weekly basis.

Blogs can consist of show previews, band featurettes, album reviews, show reviews, photo reviews, artist Q&As, or most anything else you can think of, so long as it's centered on PORTLAND underground or emerging bands.

Currently, there is no monetary compensation, but helping contribute blogs to The Deli Portland can get you into local shows for free, as well as receive free albums and other swag. Additionally, The Deli Portland will begin promoting a monthly series of local shows in the city, which will help boost local awareness for the site, as well as generate a little bit of income for those who assist. We're only looking for 1-2 blog posts per week ranging from 100-400 words. Easy peasy.

Please check out the site, vote on the Band of the Month poll, etc. If you're interested in contributing, email ryan@thedelimagazine.com with a 150-word blog sample.

Looking specifically for people with a passion for Portland's music scene!

We try to post about 10-15 newsy articles a day, aggregating the best content from around the web. The site isn't all that different than say, Gawker, Boing Boing, Neatorama, Kottke, or any number of blogs out there. Must be familiar with wordpress!

I'm looking for someone interested in this sort of news blogging and promoting that content on Facebook, Twitter, etc. (though not a requirement). It would be nice to get a minimum of five stories a day. I can't pay, but the site does attract about 1,500 pageviews a day. So, it's not like you'd be blogging into a vacuum. Hit me up if you're interested. I'm sure with a job well done there would be a some drinks at happy hour waiting for the right person. For journalism students it could make for good clips/resume building. Selfishly, I'm also looking for a partner in crime to help grow the site so I'm hoping this begins that process.

Cheers,

Local LGBTQ blog seeks contributors

My baby is growing up. qPDX (http://qpdx.com), my blog about all the news, events, and culture of Portland, Oregon’s queer communities is poised to leave the next and go out into the wide world. Mommy’s got to let go. What this means is that we are currently seeking all kinds of contributors with a connection to the local LGBT community in the areas of blogging, promotion, and event coverage. Because qPDX is still a fledgling adventurer, these are currently volunteer opportunities but we are growing like crazy and there is often opportunities to attend fun events or even nab some swag.

Writers: There are many kinds of blog posts and qPDX is interested in news, commentary, reviews and any other locally relevant queer topic you want to tackle. Photos, linking, and general blog knowledge is important. Ideally we’d like a commitment of 2 posts a week.

Photographers/Video Producers: You’ll need your own equipment (although that may change in the future) and ideally some event experience. Posts typically will need to be published within 12-24 hours of the event.

Marketing/Ads: Charismatic business-minded folks are especially needed to get all us artists to stay on track. We have several businesses interested in advertising with us and we need some to take charge of keeping in touch with advertisers and help us make our finances just a little less messy.

To apply email alley@qpdx.com with a sample blog post, photos or portfolio as well as some background info about yourself.

The independent zine American Gun Culture Report is seeking contributors for its winter 2009 issue. For the last four years AGCR has been publishing articles on firearms, social violence and gun politics by writers who are Libertarians, Socialists, Anarchists, Feminists and every other catagory not commonly represented by mainstream gun literature. In particular, articles focusing on labor movements, both current and historic fit the upcoming theme but any writing from perspectives not found in Guns & Ammo are desired. AGCR is not currently able to pay for compositions by unpublished or inexperienced writers but is quite willing to fairly compensate more accomplished or talented authors. While still relatively small time, AGCR attempts to maintain a high standard of quality in both production and content.
Short Science Fiction/Fantasy Needed

Do you have a science fiction or fantasy story that you’d like to tell? While no pay is involved I am looking to try compiling a selection of short stories (1000 to 5000 words long) for print and download through www.lulu.com.

The idea as it stands is that I would be getting together original submissions from Oregon and Washington authors and editing/compiling them into a work which would then be made available online for purchase in both formats on a quarterly basis.

If the first issue proves successful the authors may then be paid retroactively, but as there is no guarantee that this will work I am not making any promises for now.

Simultaneous submissions are alright with me so long as the other parties involved are aware that this is the case. Authors may order copies of the book from me directly when it is complete on an “at cost” basis (as the book is not complete I do not know the exact cost yet, it should be under $10 though including shipping.)

Be aware that your submissions will be edited for content and size as needed.

I hope to be ready for publication in January so submissions should be in before December 1.

I accept physical and electronic formats for documents, but electronic documents must be in Microsoft Word format or plain text.

I reserve the right to reject any submission without reason. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Jesta (yes-tah) is a local Portland group seeking a writer to submit a small press release regarding one of your upcoming shows. Umphrey's Mcgee, a nationally touring act is playing the Crystal Ballroom October 24th and in recent contact with the groups manager, we were asked to make our Tiger Bar show the Official Afterparty. We are looking for a small press release (200-400 words) regarding this opportunity. This is a great gig for an English/writing/journalism major or green writer looking for clips. We are looking to improve our press kit and launch a website in the near future, so this can certainly lead to paying gigs. If you are interested, write something up and we'll take a look at it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
