General Position Summary:

The Corporate Transportation Manager will lead Global transportation negotiations to mitigate rates increases by leveraging overall company volumes to assist regions in controlling expenses. This position will develop a holistic approach to carrier management by planning and executing strategies to reduce costs and improve services. This position will develop KPI’s and metrics to evaluate carrier performance, develop quarterly business reviews, implement industry best practices, and educate Columbia personnel on transportation mode optimization. In addition, this position will research and implement a global freight audit and payment provider to ensure Columbia’s transportation spend is audited/managed correctly.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Lead Global Transportation negotiations
- Mitigate future rate increases by leveraging global transportation volumes
- Develop and distribute transportation scorecard (cost and service KPI’s)
- Plan monthly carrier evaluations and quarterly business reviews with key partners
- Create and execute a RFI, RFP, and all required business processes to enable global negotiations
- Educate key Columbia stakeholders on transportation optimization alternatives to lower costs and improve service
- Implement carrier alerts to enable increased shipment visibility
- Develop transportation alternatives for all regions/brands to enable improved cost/unit and delivered service

Secondary Functions:
- Develop region transportation budgets
- Help establish proper costing for FOB calculations
- Stakeholder on various supply chain initiatives
- Other duties as assigned

Job Scope:
This position will have 1-2 direct reports, but many of the tasks will be performed independently with minimal supervision, but verified regularly. Duties will consist of managing global negotiations by working with key transportation stakeholders. Position will establish standard operating procedures, freight routing, and allocations that will have substantial impact on the company’s bottom line profits. Duties will also consist of ensuring company updates and education on transportation/supply chain issues and opportunities. This position will have high visibility in the organization due to its affect on company profits.

Interpersonal Contacts:
Contacts will be made both inside and outside the company. Establishment of a strategic relationship with senior level leaders at multiple transportation providers is essential for success. Internal contacts include Buyers/Planning, Manufacturing, Systems, Sales, and others as required. Interactions will entail discussions on information sharing, problem solving, education on transportation optimization/improvements, strategic initiative execution, and other company discussions. External communications will include industry updates, strategic initiatives, negotiations and allocations/routings, evaluations, and other service provider discussions. Primary interactions will be face-to-face, but also via conference call for global requirements. Information will be extremely confidential, both inside and outside of Columbia.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Position will have 1-2 direct reports (YTBD)

Specific Job Skills:
This position requires deep knowledge and understanding of global transportation and logistics practices (International ocean & air and domestic parcel and truck). Additional knowledge of freight audit and payment practices/procedures is a requirement. Ability to create key transportation scorecards and metrics that measure past, current, and future expenses (costs/service/budgets/etc). Proficient in all Microsoft applications with the ability to manipulate data to perform analysis as needed. Excellent presentation skills and ability to convey ideas to Sr. Level leaders is required. Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Ability to work independently and follow company protocol. Physical ability to use telephone, computer hardware/software including keyboard, type, sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Education:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Management, or some business-related field
- 10+ years of Global Transportation/Supply Chain experience in lieu of a degree

Experience/requirements:
- Qualified candidates will have at least 7-10 years of relevant business experience with global transportation negotiations, freight audit and payment management, and quantitative business analysis.
- Demonstrated top performance in prior roles, with increasing level of responsibility
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task as needed to complete projects as needed.
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to lead internal stakeholder groups in solving current business issues.
- Experience working with a multi-national consumer products company is preferred

Job Conditions:
Job requires domestic and international travel. Work hours will occasionally exceed 8 hours/day and/or 40 hours per week as required to manage the business. Evening meetings and/or weekend work occasionally required to collaborate with people in other time zones and to ensure timely project completion. Some job pressure exists in the balancing of several projects with conflicting and sometimes changing deadlines. The ability to sit for extended periods and to bend, kneel, and stoop. Ability to operate telephones and computer hardware & software, including keyboard and 10-key. Physical capability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Exposure to a computer CRT.
