SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II
(Limited duration position)
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, one of the most progressive fire departments in the Northwest, is hiring for a limited duration Systems Administrator II. The term of employment extends to June 30, 2011. The Systems Administrator II will manage and maintain assigned areas of responsibilities ranging from application to server management. This position serves as one of several technical points of escalation for the IT team. To qualify you must have a proven track record demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of systems administration. The successful candidate will have very strong verbal and written communications skills, and demonstrated successes in project planning and implementation. The position prefers a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college and minimum of 4 years of experience in a service desk or computer support environment; or a combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of this position. TITLE: Systems Administrator II (limited duration through 6/30/11)
DUTIES: The Systems Administrator II installs, configures and maintains server software and hardware connected to the LAN (Local Area Network).
SALARY: $4,973 - $6,728 per month.
Grade 9; non-exempt
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensures that assigned IT systems are healthy and working properly.
2. Identifies, assesses, troubleshoots and resolves issues pertaining to assigned IT technologies.
3. Researches and recommends solutions to technology needs, ensuring compatibility with the existing technology standards and infrastructure.
4. Functions as an integral part of the IT team, working with other team members as necessary to implement large projects.
5. Actively participates in small- to large-scale project implementations while balancing daily responsibilities to ensure assigned technologies are operating smoothly.
6. Stays up-to-date on trends and developments in technologies applicable to the District, and maintains expertise by attending training, classes, seminars, and other meetings to continuously improve the employee’s knowledge base.
7. Generates documentation and support information on processes and procedures used for maintaining and troubleshooting assigned technologies.
8. Represents the IT team as a technical consultant in various aspects of IT services.
9. Provides backup coverage for IT technical staff during periods of absence.
10. Provides periodic on-call off-hours support.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of higher education and experience which enables the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
2. A minimum of four years experience in a service desk or computer support environment.
Additional Requirements:
1. Exceptional customer service skills.
2. Very strong written and verbal communications skills.
3. Proven project implementation experience.
4. Proven work experience in a lead role working with a cohesive IT team.
5. Ability to analyze complex technical problems and provide logical and effective solutions.
6. Strong understanding of IT policies and procedures. Ability to develop consistent methodologies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work environment. Hours may exceed more than 40 hours per week especially during times of special projects. Preparedness to be on-call during times of major emergencies/disasters is required. Involves minimal exposure to hazards or adverse environmental conditions as most work is performed indoors. Involves frequent stress created by deadlines and internal pressures of the District. Travel within the District is required as part of this position.
