volunteers for concert bus tour! (northwest and more)

WE have biofuels caravan, so like to have drivers for mercedes and greyhound bus, we provide sleeping quarters on bus, and you will provide intelligent conversation as we have natural cotton and wool items from latin america(the mayan indians) and students love to shop for the holidays so we do stop at colleges as well. We mostly run all the vehicles on alternative fuels, so those with skills and knowlege in that area would be greatly appreciated. You can volunteer for week or more, and month is best as we have some things you will learn to share that take bit of time and focus. At campus sites we offer noon yoga, so if you do yoga or can handle class that is sweet asset! WE are mostly veggie folk and when possible we offer free samples at various events.
Still working on music concert dates and sites so those with suggestions email us asap with your preferences, we will have at least one mercedes and sometimes 2 running on various fuels, some costing 30 cents a gallon! You will learn incredible amount of info, some say it is a semester of learning every month!
Get your materials to us straight away as we have only so much room, and let us share a fun filled pre holiday season! There is not a fee to travel, just furnish your eats, and next year we have some positions in latin america for those who are on this bus tour!
Tell us all you can in an email, and how much time you could spend(wk min) and
if you like the crew the possibility to stay on longer if there is room and you click well with everyone...
Thanks for sharing your time and energy, and we will go into more details once your reply arrives....

Plant Trees with SOLV in North Plains on Saturday, Nov 1 (McKay Creek)

Plant Trees and help restore the MacKay Creek watershed in North Plains</b< at SOLV’s Team Up For Watershed Health sites on Saturday November 1, 2008.</b? By planting native trees and shrubs in these areas volunteers will be creating habitat for future generations of birds, small mammals, and fish. Plantings start at 9 am and end by 12 pm.

Over the years, MacKay Creek has been overrun with blackberry and reed canary grass degrading the overall health of the watershed. As part of this opportunity, volunteers will work to restore a functioning ash wetland on site by planting natives and wetland vegetation, which will improve water quality and decrease erosion. Project partners include Metro, Clean Water Services and Summit Foods.

For more information and to register visit the Team up For Watershed Health Website, http://www.solv.org/programs/teamup_watershed_health.asp. Event information is found at the very bottom of the page. You can also contact Brett Lyon at brett@solv.org or 503-844-9571 x 332. Put on your boots, grab a shovel, and come dig in! We hope to see you out in your watershed!

Research Volunteers - Receive feedback on personality + relationship

Hello,

I'm a graduate student at Stony Brook University and I'm conducting an online relationship survey about breakups and divorce for my dissertation and I could really use your help. I'm trying to learn about the experiences of real people -- men and women -- across the country (and world). My work involves learning about the full range of people's responses following the end of a significant romantic relationship -- meaning I'm interested the difficulties folks experience but also any positive changes that result form this challenging life experience. We've all heard anecdotally that over time many people say they have experienced some positive changes (in themselves, in their relationships) after their breakups/divorces, but we don't seem to know much about this topic. That's where I need your help!

People who have participated in the project so far say they enjoy thinking about these experiences and sharing them, and they appreciate the anonymous, free, personalized feedback you have the option of receiving immediately upon completion of the approx. 30 minute online survey.

The web address of my survey is: http://www.courses.rochester.edu/surveys/funk/relbreakup/ Here you'll find a greater description of the project and a link to the survey pages.

Thank you in advance for your help and support!

DETAILED SURVEY INFORMATION: Did your romantic relationship end?

Are you 18 or over?

Psychology researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook are looking for people whose romantic relationship (cohabiting or married) ended a year or more ago, to complete a short survey.

The Relationship Breakup Survey is:
-- VOLUNTARY and ANONYMOUS
-- Completed all ONLINE
-- BRIEF (takes about 25 - 30 min to complete)
-- A chance to receive EXTENSIVE free INDIVIDUAL FEEDBACK on:

- your past relationship satisfaction
- your comfort with emotional intimacy
- your sense that others will be there for you
- how optimistic you are
- how open you are to new experiences
- your personal growth, following this breakup, in 5 areas (Personal Strength, New Possibilities, Relating to Others, Appreciation of Life, and Spiritual Change)
- if applicable, your current relationship satisfaction

To learn more and participate please visit: http://www.courses.rochester.edu/surveys/funk/relbreakup/

For a book about love: We want your story...

...or someone else's. As long as you think it's a good love story, we'd like to hear it. Doesn't matter if it's happy or sad, if the lovers are rich or poor, women or men. We want to hear from all races, all ages, all types.

The final product will be a series of interviews in which Americans of all kinds discuss what love means to them.

We created the book GIG: Americans Talk About Their Jobs, praised reviewed by USA Today, US Weekly, and called “an addictive read” by the Harvard Business Review.
Now we want to make a book like that about love.

Not every story has to be dramatic. We are also interested in stories of people who overcame problems, people with funny stories, people who have lost or proven their love in unusual ways, and people who have enjoyed or suffered from quiet, slow problems instead of loud, “reality show” problems.

If you have a story you are burning to tell but don't want your neighbors to know, we can protect your identity.

Please email us and let us know whether you'd like to:

- share your story
- interview someone you think has a good story, or
- put us in contact with someone we should interview.

A few details about the story and your background would also be helpful. Thank you for your interest.

Coffee Creek Quilters provide quilting classes to minimum security female inmates at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville. Quilting provides a positive “hands on” experience for the students to learn and practice a variety of life-enhancing skills, such as perseverance, patience and problem solving, in addition to exploring creativity and giving back to the community. The students make three quilts. The first two are donated to local charities. Students may keep the third quilt or give it to a loved one. This non-profit organization began in 2002 and been extraordinarily successful. All materials and time are donated.

We have need for instructors for classes, 2 hours per week teaching plus prep time. We also need volunteers to perform behind the scenes tasks, such as preparing quilt kits. A background check and Department of Corrections training is required for instructors who are going into the facility. Long arm quilters are needed to donate their skills to quilt the students' third quilts. We accept donations of quilting fabrics and tools.
