A-dec is seeking a talented and skilled Toolmaker. This position supports the manufacturing departments by building, modifying and maintaining jigs, fixtures, air drills, assembly fixtures and gauges for efficient production operations within very close tolerance requirements.
Other duties and responsibilities include:
- Partnering with A-dec production supervisors and manufacturing engineers to determine customer requirements and needs
- Recommends temporary or permanent tooling, visualizes parts and their relation to the structure and function of the tooling, and determines how to sequence construction steps for A-dec specific tooling
- Provides own bench tool designs, using CAD technology, prefer AutoCAD Inventor skills
- Designs and builds complex tooling for methods of continuous improvement
- Programs, edits, sets-up, and operates department CNC machining equipment, as well as manual lathes, mills, drills, grinders, air discharge equipment, etc., to produce precision tooling, Mastercam experience preferred
- Prepares appropriate holding devices (pneumatic, manual, or hydraulic), experience with PLC’s a plus
- Follows safety guidelines and must not pose a risk to self or others
Qualifications:
- Considerable education or equivalent experience in close tolerance (+/- .0005), machine shop practices, and machine tool set-up and operation; machinery includes CNC machines, manual mills, lathes, drill presses, and surface and tool grinders
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill using computer software, which will include AutoCAD design and CAD/CAM programming and editing skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of fixture tooling concepts and machine practices required
- Demonstrated ability to be trained in the design and manufacture of punch and dies, used to manufacture production parts
- Demonstrated ability to accurately perform calculations involving shop math, including basic geometry and trigonometry
- Demonstrated ability to sketch and make mechanical drawings to present ideas effectively, along with communication skills to provide design input to Manufacturing Engineers, etc., using credible evidence to back-up recommendations
- Demonstrated knowledge of heat treating and of tool steel selection
- Demonstrated ability to work independently yet apply occasional instructional input to work
