Benefits of Alpaca Beans/Poop as Fertilizer
Alpacas have a very efficient 3 stomach digestive system. Leaving very little, if any, undigested food/seeds that otherwise would become weeds in your garden, unlike other livestock. It has high levels of nitrogen & potassium, major plant nutrients.
Alpaca manure is a great natural fertilizer for both vegetable, flower gardens and house plants. It is not necessary to compost/age or cure alpaca beans. They are not "hot". Meaning they will not "burn" plants it comes in contact with. Allowing easy, no stress application. It is low in organic matter but still has enough to improve soil texture and water-holding capacity. It is great for delicate plants. It is referred to, by many, as "alpaca gold" or "black gold".
Alpaca waste is eco-friendly. Alpacas are considered the "green" livestock. They are gentle on the earth. You can raise a whole herd of alpacas without leaving much of a hoof print on the environment. Alpacas have soft pads on the bottom of their feet. Their feet don't compact the soil like heavy hooves. Keeping your pastures green.
With teeth on the bottom front, a split lip and a figure-eight style of chewing, alpacas actually cut the grass as they eat, rather than pulling it up by the root like other animals. Easy on the land. A herd of alpacas consolidates its waste in one or two spots in the pasture, thereby controlling the spread of parasites and making it easier to collect and compost their fertilizer. Alpacas are not known to carry E-Coli 157.
Alpaca manure has a very low odor, practically none which makes it a fantastic fertilizer to work with. Good soil health will reduce disease and pest problems and keep your plants happy and healthy throughout the year.
