Planted in 1 gallon pots, now about 1 to 2½ feet tall
HONEYBERRY has twice the vitamin A and 4 times more vitamin C than blueberry; the antioxidant and potassium levels are about triple that of blueberries… plus honeyberry is considered one of the easiest fruiting bushes to grow! It may produce berries for 30 to 50 years, requiring virtually no maintenance or pruning. The mature 4 to 6 foot tall bushes will thrive and fruit even in areas with very cold winters. [Plant both varieties for cross-pollination.]
AURORA HONEYBERRY is a large extra-sweet variety, tasting much like a blueberry/raspberry mix. Enjoy them fresh or use berries in smoothies, jam, ice cream, sorbets, baking, chutney, as a cooked fruit, even for wine. They make a good snack when canned, frozen, or dehydrated - a healthy raisin alternative. Aurora Honeyberry ripens in July on bushes that mature between 4 and 6 feet tall. Aurora is a reliable variety for colder regions. Lonicera caerulea ‘Aurora’ USDA Zones 3-8
TUNDRA HONEYBERRY was developed by a Canadian University specifically for its cold-hardiness and early-ripening, very large fruit. These grow on a smaller bush that usually stays about 4 feet tall. Tundra’s taste has been described as that of a wild blueberry with a hint of black currant. Berries may be eaten fresh and they make especially good jams and jellies. We enjoy them in pancakes, waffles, or syrup. The Tundra bush grows very quickly, and you may pick the ripe honeyberries early – sometimes even as soon as June. Tundra is well named, as it is one of the hardiest varieties of honeyberry. Lonicera caerulea ‘Tundra’ USDA Zones 2-7
