AUTUMN BLAZE – ABOUT 9 TO 10 FEET TALL NOW, planted in 5 gallon pots $75
Autumn Blaze grows very quickly - over 2 feet per year, maturing about 30 feet tall. The green 3 inch leaves have silver undersides throughout the summer. Autumn Blaze is named for its vivid and dramatic orange-red foliage that lasts all autumn long. Acer x freemanii ‘Jeffersred’ USDA Zones 3-8
BLOODGOOD – 4½ TO 5 FEET TALL NOW, planted in 3 gallon pots $40
Award-winning maple with a non-invasive root system, Bloodgood Maple is a wise choice for areas where buildings are close, making it ideal for the city-sized lot or planted in a pot, which keeps it smaller for a patio, deck, or balcony. Leaves emerge red, aging to shades of burgundy (depending on amount of sun.) Springtime it has little purple flowers which develop into winged samaras. Deep red/black bark provides interest in the wintertime. Bloodgood grows 1 to 2 ft yearly, maturing about 10-15 feet tall (less in a container). Easy-care and one of the hardiest varieties of Japanese Maple.** Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ USDA Zones 5-8
BRANDYWINE – 8 TO 9 FEET TALL NOW, planted in 5 gallon pots $50 or about 6½ FEET TALL NOW, in 3 gallon pots $35
In spring, Brandywine has graceful red flowers before the foliage emerges. The glossy green foliage becomes red/purples in the fall, with colors often lasting into November. Brandywine is a seedless maple & the flowers are all male – so no helicopter whirlybirds. The mature tree has an oval shape, growing about 30 feet tall in full sun to part shade. Acer rubrum “Brandywine’ USDA Zones 4-8
CRIMSON SENTRY – 9 TO 10 FEET TALL NOW, planted in 5 gallon pots $75 or 5½ to 6 FEET TALL NOW, in 3 gallon pots $40
Excellent to border a path, driveway, or roadway, this maple grows less than 25 feet tall and it stays narrow. A mature Crimson Sentry is wind resistant and drought tolerant. It is a suitable variety for coastal areas as it also has a tolerance for salt spray. In spring, the branches have small yellow blossoms before the leaves emerge. In fall the burgundy foliage turns bright crimson. Developed in 1972 - nearby in Hubbard Oregon - this maple is well suited to our climate & city size yards. Acer platanoides ‘Crimson Sentry’ (also tagged ‘Crimson Red’) USDA Zones 4-9
NORWAY MAPLE – 9 TO 11 FEET TALL NOW, planted in 5 gallon pots $40
Considered one of the most beautiful maples, Norway Maple is fast growing and provides rapid and dense shade as it matures to about 30 feet tall. Spring brings large bright green/yellow flowers that turn into samaras. In autumn the tree glows with yellow/orange foliage. Norway Maple has a high tolerance to shade & compacted soils and it is very cold hardy. Acer platanoides USDA Zones 4-7
RED SUNSET – ABOUT 10 FEET TALL NOW, planted in 5 gallon pots $75
Named for the red accents of color during all 4 seasons, especially its stunning fall foliage of rust, orange, and reds. Clusters of small spring flowers are also red, as are the tree’s winter stems. In summer red winged samaras nestle among the dark green leaves. The tree is fast growing, a tidy rounded shape, maturing about 30 feet tall, growing in almost any type of soil, in full sun to part shade. Red Sunset Maple was developed in Boring, Oregon in the 1940s. It is ideal for local conditions. Acer rubrum ‘Franks Red’ USDA Zones 4 - 8
