Guide Dogs for the Blind has a rare opportunity for a Nurse Manager to support our clients at the Boring, Oregon campus. If you love taking long walks and enjoy people and dogs, this could be the career for you!
The Nurse Manager is a working RN who is also responsible for oversight and direction to the nursing staff. The nurses support our clients while they are on campus and walk the same routes, along with our training staff and Guide Dogs, to ensure client's physical and mental well-being.
The Nurse Manager collaborates with their counterpart at the California campus to ensure consistency in service, policies and procedures. They participate in client selection by reviewing applicable client information and providing input on physical readiness to partner with a Guide Dog.
We are looking for an RN who meets the following requirements:
Must be licensed in the State of Oregon
A minimum of three years' supervisory and administrative experience
CPR/first aid certified
Ability to walk long distances, be outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and safely lift up to 40 pounds
Must have an excellent driving record and be insurable under normal risk rates
Demonstrate GDB values and behaviors
Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to all encountered in the course of work
Ability to be successful with minimal supervision and direction and be viewed as a motivational leader
~Provide health care services to clients to prevent, treat or manage their health care needs
~Collaborate with HR to recruit, interview, select and train nursing staff
~Develop nursing staff by mentoring, coaching, planning, monitoring and evaluating staff performance
~Schedule nurses and manage timekeeping
~Schedule educational classes for RN's on a variety of topics and provide training as needed for other GDB staff
~Attend management meetings and serve on committees as assigned
~Participate on the Admissions Review Committee and follow-up with Physicians and applicants
~Supervise client recordkeeping
~Prepare the annual budget for the Nursing Department and monitor costs
~Communicate client dietary needs and allergies to residence staff
~Educate staff in emergency protocols for client safety
~Ensure AED overview program is in place
