Clackamas County Law Library is currently accepting applications for a part-time, Law Library Assistant 2. This position will work 19 hours a week and will be joining a small team of professionals that support a variety of patrons ranging from judges to attorneys to the public.

Primary responsibilities involve providing reference assistance to patrons and guidance on types and location of legal research and reference materials; processing incoming print and non-print materials; and assisting the Law Librarian. The ideal candidate will have library or legal experience, preferably in a law library or legal research environment, familiarity with navigating through print and electronic law library collections and systems, excellent attention to detail, strong communication, patron assistance, and computer skills. Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

  1. Two (2) years of library or legal experience
  2. Two (2) years of experience reading call numbers and working with complex pagination
  3. Experience working in an environment that requires a high level of attention to detail 
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  5. Ability to perform repetitive tasks, paying careful attention to detail
  6. Three (3) years of experience communicating with diverse populations
  7. Prior legal research or reference training
  8. Computer assisted research knowledge
  9. Familiarity with law library classification
  10. Be a self-directed, independent thinker with the ability to follow procedures and direct patrons regarding law library policies
  11. Driving may be necessary for County business. For position(s) with occasional/incidental driving, incumbents must possess a valid driver's license. Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

  1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or a Master of Library Science (M.L.S.) degree
  2. Experience working in a law library or legal setting
  3. Advanced computer skills including knowledge of online legal research subscriptions (Lexis/Westlaw/etc.), Word, Excel and Outlook

The Clackamas County Law Library is located in historic downtown Oregon City on Main Street. Law Library staff members are available to assist patrons with locating resources and performing legal research 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. State law (ORS 9.160) and Law Library policy prohibit staff from providing any assistance that might constitute the unauthorized practice of law. The Alden E.
