This instrument was saved from disposal during a clean-up of a high school attic back in 1967. I would guess it was put into storage some time earlier in the 1950s.
It is an A440 lyre marching glockenspiel with all 25 bar chimes intact and attached.
There are no manufacturer’s markings other than the music note engraved onto each of the chiming bars. A review of the general configuration of instruments against those images on the web might indicate that this is a style of Ludwig or Bell. (It does not appear to be a Lyra, Jenco, B.F. Kitching, nor D8.)
The frame is spray painted silver, is rough and not polished. Since recovery from the attic, new velvet dampening has been added and many of the fasteners (thrreaded screws, nuts, and washers) have been replaced. The chime bars are in their original condition, so I am assuming that they remain in tune. The tape on the lower frame is there to cover the threaded ends of the fasteners. There are two handmade hammers.
The instrument is as shown. There are no tassels, no bag, no belt, no strap, no case, and no extension.
