It is in excellent shape. The pictures tell a great story of its condition and dimensions. It is roughly 26" long (tall) by 17" wide. The construction is quite nicely done and very secure. Shoulder straps, supports, and eye hooks are all in good shape.
The frame is all treated hardwood! You don’t find THAT anymore! The supports are steam formed bentwood slats. Steel fasteners provide stability. It has eye hooks on the back to secure a strapped in load. There are also eye rings suspended from the top of the frame.
The shoulder straps can be adjusted wider for bigger body sizes. There are no tears or rips in the webbing and other materials.
I would not doubt this was handcrafted specifically for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the U.S. Forestry Service, or the U.S. Army in the 1940s. It definitely “breathes” history.
Add this to your collection or give it to someone such as the veteran or hunter in your family.
Reason I'm selling: I just don't need it for my collection anymore! The joy and value are passed on to you!
