I seek out good condition low brass instruments, get necessary repairs done to them, and add replacement parts (felts, springs, oil, grease) and find good homes for them. I have several available, but thought I'd put some samples out on their own.
I have not fully restored this 1957 Conn euphonium, but it in queue for a full cleaning. It is among the straighter horns I've worked on (in the top 30 anyway). It has a lacquer finish with several areas of wear that can be polished easily. The condition is excellent considering its 65+ year age, but flawed if you are looking for a new horn. There are no major dents, but you can see details in the photos - there are very few dings, and the horn plays wonderfully with its short-action Conn valves. The tubing and valves are in very good condition overall, and from 12 feet away it looks flawless, but up close you can see the patina that comes from age.
Look at the photos for more detail on this classic horn. It has a rough, but sound original case (shown) and comes with a Vincent Bach 12C mouthpiece. Over the next few weeks I'll give it a good cleaning, but you're welcomed to come and check it out as I get it up to speed - it plays like a champ today, but it can use some TLC. (still in time for Tuba Christmas in Portland!! or holiday shopping for a sweet instrument)
I also have a selection of other Olds and Reynolds euphoniums that I've restored over the past few months. I have horns from the 50's-70's including the Olds/Reynolds student line (Ambassador) and the Olds professional line (Studio) most with a detachable bell. These are great practice horns or actually sound better than many of the available "new" horns that cost far more (and they have no depreciation!). Prices range from $450-600.
Come and give one a try - I have two cases that are OK but not a custom fit; I recommend a great stand to use that gives them a sturdy base and makes the easily available to practice.... The case with the Conn fits like a glove; an old, beat-up looking glove.
