I'm restoring a 1946 British Auster mark 5 spotter aircraft. I need an engine for it. The Auster was an aircraft used during World War 2 to direct Artillery shoots and would fly around the area the shell landed and radioed back the location so the shots would get more accurate. They were used on D Day (June 6, 1944) and even in the Korean war by the British military. There are only 2 of the Mark 5 Auster's in the United state and the other one is in a Museum in PA. I'm trying to get this 80 year old airplane flying again.
Originally these aircraft had Gipsy (inverted 4 cylinder) engine on them but they also had Lycoming 4 cylinder engines on some and my aircraft has a cowling and mount for a Lycoming engine. I'm looking for a Lycoming O-320 engine with conical engine mounts (not the later ones with the Dyna focal mounts). The O-320A or B series engine would be great. I'm trying to find an engine that is not a run out of a core that needs a total rebuild, that has some time left before TBO. If you have something like that give me a call, I'm willing to pay a fair price for an engine that hasn't had a prop strike or lost data plate/ log books.
Here's what it will look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAtoX8cGCQ0
