JOB SUMMARY: The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the organization and all aspects of financial management. This includes production of periodic regulatory and financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting controls, and significant input to the budget and forecast preparation to mitigate risk. The individual in this position will ensure the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results and that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller’s responsibilities also include financial risk management and supervision of accounting and finance staff.
Manage all accounting operations, including supervision of accounting team
o Billing, A/R, A/P, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Payroll processing, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
o Maintain chart of accounts
o Maintain a strong, documented, system of internal controls over accounting and treasury transactions inside and outside the Company’s ERP system
o Prepare and publish timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements including variance reporting to budget/forecast
o Maintain an active financial close checklist
o Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
o Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
o Develop and document financial business processes and accounting policies
o Engage and develop direct reports in a manner that focuses on self-awareness and professional development
o Actively participate in cross-functional leadership environments, presenting/explaining relevant financial information, engaging in supportive dialog, and educating team members
o Communicate financial information to a cross-functional leadership team, highlighting key observations and take-aways
Research and advise on technical accounting issues for compliance
Direct and manage the annual financial statement audit and tax preparation processes
Banking and Treasury support of the CFO including
o Bank compliance report preparation and quality control
o Direct an manage bank audits/appraisals
o Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
Own and manage local, state, and federal tax filings
o Compliance and reporting requirements and tax
o Pursue cost/tax reduction initiatives
o Sales tax exemption / filing
o Unclaimed property filings/compliance
Coordinate, collaborate, and direct (as needed) preparation of the budget and financial forecasts
Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
Maintain deep knowledge regarding Company’s ERP system including
o Oversight of the financial reporting, transaction, and control aspects of that system
o Advise on ERP control and change management
o Actively participate as a security/system administrator
Support and provide financial analyses as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
Food Manufacturing experience preferred
Thorough, demonstrated, knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Strong communication skills both oral/written
Strong knowledge of Excel
Experience in a growth environment leading cross functional teams of five or more direct reports
Ability to demonstrate personal commitment and drive to set and exceed high standards
Ability to communicate and understand work instructions in English
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:
Primarily an office environment but occasionally individual is on production floor with exposure to heat, dust and allergens.
Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move, objects, etc.
Must be able to ascend and descend building stairways and ramps to reach job assignments and perform tasks required in job description.
Position requires frequent sitting for long periods of time with occasional standing, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, bending and twisting.
