Selling my beloved 1984 Bianchi Randonneur touring bike. Decals have faded in places, but the lively Ishiwata butted tubing and blue paint are in great condition. Overall the bike is well maintained, solid and ready to ride. I do a few short tours each year on this bike without hesitation. I love this bike and would keep it -but at 5’7” it’s slightly too small for me. I’ve struggled to make it work, but I think it’s time for someone else to enjoy it. It’s considered a “lightweight” touring bike – meaning it’s geared kind of high (especially the middle ring), the stock racks are not made for huge amounts of weights (they rely on only one top connection point) and there are limited eyelet connections for racks. I’ve never had a problem loading it up for a few days’ tour – maybe up to 30lbs on the rear rack and another 20 on the front. If you typically take heavier loads, this is probably not the bike for you.
19” (48.5 cm) center to center seat tube
21” (53 cm) center to center top tube
29.8” standover height
Built in Japan with Ishiwata Magny tubing
Mostly original, with some upgrades.
**Original parts:
Suntour Mountain Tech derailleurs (3 by 6 speed = 18 speeds)
SR stem
Tourney AD crankset and chainrings and bottom bracket
Bianchi branded headset
Dia-Compe cantilever brakes
**Modifications:
700C wheels (Mavic MA40 - 622mm vs the original 630mm 27” wheels – i.e. these wheels are 4mm smaller (in radius) than the stock wheels). This means the brakes are not perfectly aligned to the braking surface (actually the fronts are pretty close, the rear pads are at more of an angle). I’ve never had a problem stopping. It would be simple to find a 27” wheelset and return it to stock if you want to. The last owner moved to the 700c wheels and I stayed with it, as it does make finding tires a little easier.
Pretty new Vittoria Randonneur 700 by 32c tires – just a few hundred miles on them.
Bar-end Suntour shifters on Sakae drop bars.
Seatpost and seat are not original.
(Note – there was a recall of forks for part of this 1982-84 model run but only forks without a "B" are subject to that recall.)
