Saga of Chief Joseph by Helen Addison Howard and inscribed and dated by her "Best Wishes from Helen Addison Howard December, 1965." Hardcover, excellent condition, $5.00. This edition published in 1965 by The Caxton Printers, Ltd. Caldwell, Idaho. 395 pages. The author spent years of investigation before writing this book. She covered all the printed and documentary sources. Dan McGrath, a descendant of Montana pioneers, assisted the author in doing research for this book. His grandmother knew Chiefs Looking Glass and White Bird and had frequent contact with their bands. In Los Angeles the author had complete access to the world renowned Northwest collection of the late William Clark. During her childhood in Montana, the author visited most of the sites described in this book. This is one the most informative accounts of Chief Joseph printed.
