Location: Portland, Oregon based (Southwest Highlands Clinic)
A fast-paced Ophthalmic Practice with 5 clinic locations in the Portland Metro and Vancouver area is seeking an experienced Medical Receptionist to join our team in our Southwest Highlands clinic. As a Retina Northwest Medical Receptionist, you will work in an assigned clinic and partner with the clinical staff to offer a complete, satisfying experience in the care, treatment, and education of ophthalmology patients. We are looking for someone that is a self-starter who can juggle multiple tasks at the same time and prioritize the workload with frequent interruption. In this position, the Reception Specialist performs a multitude of function; works well within a team, interacts constantly with patients, staff, and vendors.As the first point of contact, you represent everyone involved in the entire practice, if you are that someone and excel at patient and customer service this position may be for you.
Under limited supervision:
•Greet patients and visitors upon arrival, completing the check in process, obtaining insurance information and any other necessary data.
•Answer and manage multi-line phone system and either direct the caller to the appropriate party of handle the caller's needs.
•Scheduling follow up appointments, no show appointments and missed appointments.
•Ensuring proper medical documentation is present and that insurance information is confirmed.
•Collect and process payments for copays, previous balances and uninsured visits.
•Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Retina Northwest.
•Maintains the waiting rooms in a clean, orderly and comfortable fashion.
•Applicant must have a pleasant demeanor and work well with others.
•Willingness to travel to and from satellite locations for coverage. Reliable transportation is essential, either private or public.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
•Excellent customer service and communication skills.
•Competent computer skills, typing 50 wpm.
•Ability to multi-task and focus in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
•Confidence using office equipment, i.e. copier, fax- machine, multi-line phone system, computer, printer, scanner, etc.
•Excellent interpersonal skills that allow effective working relationships with a diverse patient population; this includes listening and problem solving skills.
•Ability to take direction and be organized.
•Able to use initiative and good judgment to resolve problems and challenges.
Education and Experience:
•High School Diploma or equivalent required
•One year of medical office experience or related customer service experience required.
•General understanding of medical insurance and experience with NextGen preferred.
