Portland Edible Gardens (www.portlandediblegardens.com) helps people grow their own fresh, organic food at their homes in the Portland metro area! We support our clients by building raised garden beds, providing personal garden mentorship and edible garden maintenance services, creating seasonal planting plans, and planting fruit trees and berries. We work with a wide range of gardeners from total beginners to long-time growers seeking to support them with their unique set of needs and help them meet their edible gardening goals.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Portland Edible Gardens is looking to add an Installation Assistant to help our installation team construct and install raised garden beds at customers homes throughout the Portland metro area.
Installation Assistant will help with materials preparation in our woodshop, grading and leveling of terrain on-site, removal of vegetation prior to installation, assembly of garden beds, hauling of debris and vegetation, installation of soil into finished garden beds, and installation of drip irrigation systems. Assistant will also help with other miscellaneous activities including cleaning/maintenance of vehicles and work space, planting of perennials, spreading mulch, and more.
This is a physical, hands-on position that requires frequent shoveling and heavy lifting in a range of conditions. This is not a gardening/horticulture position.
This is a part-time, seasonal position with variable hours 16-32 hours/week
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with construction and installation of raised garden beds
• Cut, sand, and prepare materials for garden bed construction in PEG woodshop space
• Complete grading and leveling of terrain for garden bed installation
• Move soil into raised garden beds and planting areas at residences
• Hauling and removal of sod, soil, plants, and debris
• Spreading of mulch and other organic materials
• Digging trenches for irrigation infrastructure
• Installation of drip irrigation systems for raised garden beds
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES:

• Sense of humor and enjoyment of physically challenging, dirty, sweaty work

• Must have own reliable transportation and excellent driving record
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Basic carpentry skills
• Garden design experience
• Familiarity with drip irrigation systems
• Knowledge of PNW organic vegetable gardening methods/techniques
COMPENSATION:
$20-$23/hr DOE
