Here are 6 great options for piano teachers for your kids (photos attached):

1. Elaini (NE Portland)
Elaini began taking piano lessons at the age of 7 and hasn’t yet stopped enjoying the gift of music. Graduating at 16 she kept pursuing the Oregon Music Teacher’s Association requirements and passed the highest level, level X, in the midst of difficult health struggles. She also competed in festivals for three years receiving superior scores each year. Playing the piano is a joy for Elaini and something that she finds deeply satisfying. She is excited about passing on the treasure of music to others. When not studying for her BA in Psychology she enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, and raising money for orphans in India. Elaini teaches Classical and Contemporary piano.

2. Kiran (SE Portland)
My name is Kiran – I grew up surrounded by an eclectic range of music ranging from traditional middle eastern songs to American folk music to Michael Jackson. I have spent most of my time seriously studying Jazz, European Classical and music from Brazil. I play piano, organ, trumpet, guitar, drums and sing. After graduating high school I was awarded a scholarship to study music at the prestigious Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. I have since studied at Portland State and privately with many accomplished and amazing teachers. I love to teach all ages and abilities as I believe that teaching is a beautiful and necessary practice for all aspiring professional musicians such as myself. As one of my mentors would frequently remind me, “you can’t keep it unless you give it away”. My goal in teaching is to use whatever knowledge and skills I have to help support and enhance the lives of my students and the people around me. In my spare time I love to play basketball, boxing, being outdoors and reading. I teach piano, guitar, voice and trumpet.

3. Adriana
Adriana is a student studying music at the University of Oregon with 9 years of experience playing music. While her main focus is trombone at U of O, she is fluent in classical piano and music theory. In the past Adriana has experience teaching band at Roosevelt High School and Martin Luther King Elementary School. Working with young students and developing their music abilities was one of her favorite jobs she had the pleasure of working. She hopes to help grow and develop young musicians by sharing her love of music and the knowledge that comes with along with it. Adriana teaches trombone and beginning piano.

4. Charles (NW Portland)
Charles is an accomplished musician who performs, composes, produces, and engineers music. He has been intense and passionate about music since early childhood. At the age of 6 he began his musical journey by learning piano and being influenced by gospel and jazz music. Later he expanded into the world of drums and percussion. Moving into his teens Charles was starting to engaged in many musical activities and performed in many groups in high school. He played in (by audition only) the All Northwest jazz band and was a featured soloist in the group on vibraphone. Also, he played in the All State Concert Bands for two years. After high school Charles studied and performed around the Inland Northwest until the late 90’s when Charles was accepted to the Berklee College of Music on scholarship and moved to Boston. While at Berklee Charles was awarded the Elvin Jones Scholarship and in May of 2000 Charles graduated “Cum Laude” from the Berklee College of Music.

5. Sara (Downtown Portland)
Sara has been performing and teaching music for a decade. A native to Florida, she received her Bachelor’s of Music Performance from University of North Florida, her Master’s of Arts from University of Central Florida, and most recently completed her Performer’s Certificate from Northern Illinois University. As an orchestral bassist, she has performed with numerous orchestras across the nation including: Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra. Sara coaches her students to win competitions and get accepted into all-county and all-state orchestras. Igniting confidence through instruction, Sara believes music education should be attainable to all and directly reflects that in her teaching method. She is excited to be in Portland and can’t wait to make a difference through music! Sara teaches upright bass, bass guitar, guitar, piano, and cello.

6. Dave (North Portland)
Having been infatuated with music for as long as he could remember, Dave began playing drums at age 11. He was immediately obsessed with all things percussion and continued his musical journey into college where he earned his degree and licensure in K-12 instrumental music education. He is also an alumnus of DCI World Championship-winning drum corps, Carolina Crown. Dave has taught orchestra, band, jazz band, drumset, vibraphone, marimba, piano, and percussion ensemble, and has had many students go on to perform in top honor bands.
