The Interceptor 650 by Royal Enfield is a recent design that has enjoyed phenomenal success in the global market, fast becoming a best seller in the 650cc twin cylinder category - due to its smooth, linear power delivery, thrilling and easy ride, paired with a great price tag which makes it accessible to a wide range of customers. Running on a smooth and great sounding 270 degree parallel twin-motor, excellent transmission. Impressing riders with remarkable handling, the Interceptor 650 is a great bike with plenty to love.
Royal Enfield achieved a low price point by focusing on the basics: the smooth engine with the tame, no surprises power delivery and an outstanding chassis that makes this bike handle like a dream. However some budget solutions were incorporated (such as a somewhat choppy suspension) and the bikes are plagued with the overly lean fuel mixture mandated by the Euro 4 (up to 2021) and Euro 5 standards (2022 and newer), which on occasion results in stalling at low RPM. All these issues have been addressed with upgrades on this particular motorcycle.
The upgrades:
I. Ride quality, comfort and fueling improvements:
- Upgraded front and rear suspension: TEC USA progressive springs plus racing fork oil to improve and even out rebounds in all temperatures.
- Front spring preload adjusters. The factory springs do not come with adjustable preload.
- Two into one single-pipe exhaust system (shaves about 26 pounds, breathes better, and adds torque in mid-range. These pipes are street legal and make a wonderful sound. Not obnoxious, but substantial.
- High flow, washable and reusable air filter, and enlarged air intake cowling to match the better breathing pipes.
- Fuel plug to slightly enrich the mixture in open loop mode (idling, low RPM and changes in throttle position and/or load). This has eliminated the common stalling issue. It also allows the engine to run significantly cooler. Note: this upgrade will not work with the 2022 and newer models as they are Euro 5.
- Upgraded BOSCH relays (the RE originals can also cause stalling and fuel delivery issues).
- Touring seat (the original seat also comes with it).
- Side luggage racks, and rear luggage rack.
- Left and right side luggage. Plastic-backed genuine leather - will maintain their shape.
- Leather tank cover with two two side pockets and a center pocket for added storage space and wrap-around tank protection.
- Passenger foot peg relocation kit (not yet installed, comes with the bike).
- Quick-detach, adjustable angle touring windshield. A shorter fly screen also comes with it for summer-time use in the city.
- Bar risers that allow for a more comfortable straight back posture while riding.
- Upgraded, adjustable front brake and clutch levers.
- Grip Buddies.
II. Convenience and safety:
- Metal alloy radiator cover.
- Bar-mounted waterproof clock.
- Bar-mounted Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
- Rubber tank-mounted knee pads.
- Center stand and side-stand.
- Lockable fuel tank cap.
- Lockable seat and side cover.
- ABS brakes.
- Tires and brakes in excellent condition.
The bike has been carefully broken in, in accordance with the instructions. The 300 mile service has been performed including the motor oil change and valve clearance adjustment. This is a design that owners with basic mechanical skills can easily work on, performing most required maintenance. Balance of three-year factory warranty. Good for both beginner riders or the more experienced ones that got tired on touring on heavy or jerky, hard-to control motorcycles.
