I am looking for a new home for my Great Dane. He is a 7 year old purebred brindle I've had since 4 weeks old, so this is extremely difficult. I have very small children, and he is too big to be around them. He has hurt them unintentionally knocking them over or with his tail, and I cant take chances for something serious. Please serious inquires only. There are some things to note before replying:
He is not neutered and initially can be a little aggressive with other male dogs. He does ok after becoming familiar with them, but it's preferred that you don't have other dogs. He is great with cats and other animals.
He has a "happy tail syndrome", where he will cut his tail hitting on things while wagging, and then bleeds. It's doing fine now, but it does happen occasionally, especially in the summer. All treatments from two vets have not solved the problem. The only solution is to bandage it when it happens and make sure he doesn't take it off.
He is a big dog and can unintentionally hurt little kids, even though he's very sweet. So a house with not little children is preferred.
He's very sweet and affectionate. Has had obedience classes and knows basic commands. He's house trained, although can be a little stubborn going outside when raining. Has had almost all of his shots. Other than the "happy tail" described above, no health issues-- he's in excellent health and does not show the hip problems common to his breed. Still lots of energy. Very handsome boy.
