Come work for a growing transit agency with room for advancement!
Serve your community and give back by driving your future today! TriMet operators provide an important service to our community, taking people to work, school, shopping, recreation, medical appointments and lots more... In fact, they give more than 100 million rides each year! Not only does TriMet connect people with their community, we help ease traffic congestion and reduce air pollution -- making the Portland area a better place to live. We offer an amazing opportunity for those who are also looking for a career change!
As a part-time bus operator, you'll provide safe, reliable, courteous and efficient transportation to riders. And you'll enjoy a competitive wage, great benefits and opportunities for advancement in a competitive employment market.
Wages and training: The training period is six weeks of full-time (40 hours/week) training. The first five weeks are paid at $14.68 an hour. Once the training program is complete, you will receive $16.62 an hour for the first five months with regular, guaranteed pay increases every four months until the top rate of pay ($30.19) is reached at 35 months.
No CDL needed -- We'll provide training and testing for your Commercial Driver's License! Do part-time operators receive medical benefits?
Yes! Even while working part-time, you will get the same great medical, dental and vision benefits full-time employees receive after the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Other benefits include a retirement plan with generous 8% company match, free transit pass, life insurance at no cost and access to TriMet's network of fitness facilities. After your probationary period is complete you'll have access to TriMet's employee assistance program, free transit passes for eligible dependents, paid sick time and paid holidays!
What about full-time work?
There is no guarantee as to when full-time opportunities will be available. However, on average, it takes about four to six months. Position requirements: We require that you have a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid and active driver's license for the past 3 years. Later on, you'll need to be able to get an Oregon or Washington CDL Class "B" license or permit with a passenger endorsement and no Air Brake restriction prior to hire. Also, this position requires a physical and drug screening. Safe driving a must:
Keep in mind that criminal violations on your driving record will disqualify you from consideration for a period of 10 years. If you have more than two less serious traffic violations, they will disqualify you if they occurred in the last 3 years. A suspended driver's license for longer than 90 days in the past 3 years will also disqualify you.
Become a TriMet bus operator and steer your career. Are you ready to get in the driver's seat?
