employment type: part-time

We're growing and expanding service at a record rate. There has never been a better time to work for TriMet.

Come drive for TriMet and you can earn more than $60,000 / year with excellent benefits while having the Portland skyline as your office view.

You'll play an important role in our community. TriMet bus operators help connect people with work, school, recreation and more. We give more than 100 million rides a year, helping to keep our streets moving and our air clean. As part-time bus operator, you'll provide safe, reliable courteous and efficient transportation to riders. You'll have a competitive wage, great benefits, and plenty of opportunities for advancement. You don't even need a CDL; we'll provide all the training testing you need.

What would I earn?

After six-weeks of full-time paid training, you'll start as a part-time bus operator at $17.16 an hour, with regular guaranteed pay increases. After three years, you can earn more than $60,000 / year.

You'll have excellent full-time benefits

Including medical, dental and vision benefits even while working part-time, a retirement plan with a generous company match, free transit passes for you and your family, no-cost life insurance, and generous paid time off -- even if working part-time.

Is full-time work available?

All bus operators start part-time. There is no guarantee as to when full-time opportunities will be available. However, on average, it takes about three to six months.

What experience and education do I need?

You'll need a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid and active driver's license for the past 3 years. Later on, you'll need to be able to get an Oregon or Washington CDL Class "B" license or permit with a passenger endorsement and no Air Brake restriction prior to hire. Also, this position requires a physical and drug screening.

What sort of driving record do I need?

Keep in mind that criminal violations on your driving record will disqualify you from consideration for a period of 10 years. If you have more than two less serious traffic violations, they will disqualify you if they occurred in the last 3 years. A suspended driver's license for longer than 90 days in the past 3 years will also disqualify you.

Are you ready to get in the driver's seat?
