Truly amazing San Ildefonso Pueblo Drum made around 1820.

"San Ildelfonso Drum + Drumstick. (purchase in 1944) made about 1820. pine wood + cowhide. Stick head filled with hair + cotton.
Made by Alonzo Aquilar when he was 20. He died in 1887 at 80+ years. It is a ceremonial drum with cloud design used for outside dances." It was sold by Alonzo's son Ignacio Aguilar who is around 78 (sept. 29,1944) Ignacio is the father of Joe A. Aguilar and the father-in-law of Rosalie Aguilar the famous potter of San Ildefonso Pueblo - Rio Grande. near Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The Aguilars belong to the Sun Clan (the principal clan) The other clans there are, the Turquoise Clan for the summer ceremonials, and the Squash Clan for the winter ceremonials. All use the same kind but all have certain assigned community duties."
