1975 38' Tri-Cabin Diesel Fiberglass Trawler Project with Single Cat
This boat was custom built by my father and myself from December 1972 to April 1975. The hull is a 1972 Ron Rawson solid fiberglass hull, this is an incredibly strong commercial hull, the cut-out of the propeller shaft log was over 2 inches thick at the keel and then it tapers up to about 5/8" thick at the very top edges of the hull/gunwales, so yes it is literally bullet-proof. We built the decks and superstructure out of wood and then fiberglassed over it just like the Taiwan built boats of the era (unfortunately the fiberglass on the superstructure should have been a little thicker and developed some very minor cracks in a few places which let water in and caused some rot in a few places in the decks but that can be easily repaired).
The engine is the original 1972 Caterpillar 3160 V8 210hp naturally aspirated and it only has 832 original hours and a dry exhaust via the smoke stack on the bridge deck. The Cat 3160 is the predecessor to the Cat 3208 which Cat later put turbos on. The engine is coupled to a Twin Disc hydraulic transmission with 2:1 ratio and that to a solid 2" stainless steel shaft which turns a 24"x16"LH prop. The boat has hydraulic steering at both the upper and lower helms.
This is a USCG Documented Vessel.
This is a project boat and has been sitting in a covered drydock boat port (not out in the weather) since about 1988 (see photos).
Photo-1 is of the day the boat was originally launched April 18th, 1975.
Photo-2 is of the boat moored at my dad's private dock in the early 1980's.
Photo-3 is of the boat laying at anchor in the San Juan Islands.
Photo-4 is a floor plan / sketch of the boat.
Photo-5 is a sistership of the boat and not of this boat.
Photo-6 is of Rawson original blueprints that I obtained from Rawson
The rest of the photos are more current and show the "project condition", etc.
The boat must be moved as soon as it is sold and will require a professional boat mover / semi-truck with hydraulic boat moving trailer. This is a project boat but it is repairable and has an extremely solid hull, far stronger than anything you can buy today. This boat has a beam of 13’6” and a draft of 4’ with a really deep keel for stability.
I WILL ONLY RESPOND TO SERIOUS INQUIRIES - YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER AND IT WOULD BE EVEN BETTER IF YOU INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AS CRAIGSLIST RELAY EMAILS ARE NOT ALWAYS RELIABLE. And if you also include an email address then I can email you a link to a lot more photos of the boat.
Thanks for reading my ad. And yes, if the ad is still up then the boat is still available so don't waste either of our time by asking.
PS - I might consider a partial trade of a Chevy K5 or a Suburban or a Yukon or Tahoe if it was in great condition and low miles. I'm also interested in a small covered / lockable utility trailer such as a 6'x10' or 8'x12' with stand up head room such as or similar the Uhaul trailers.
