FAQ's:

Q: What is the address of the studio?
A: 8532 SW Saint Helens Drive #150, Wilsonville, OR 97070 – Park in the lower lot, there are double glass doors on the left (northwest) side of the building. Suite #150 is the door straight ahead.

Q: What are the hours of the studio?
A: We are by appointment only. Generally, we are open for sessions Monday thru Friday 10am-5pm, evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Q: What instruments are available?
A: House instruments are always fair game when they are available. Generally, we have a Yamaha M08 digital controller and virtual piano emulators, synth controller and virtual classic organs and synths, Fender Strat, Ovation MOB57 Acoustic/Electric, Taylor 818e Acoustic/Electric, Ibanez Soundgear GR active fan-fret bass, Mitchell ukulele, Roland V-Drums kit, and plenty of virtual amplifiers and effects.

Q: What kind of microphones do you have?
A: Shure SM7B MV7X, Gauge large diaphragm vocal condenser, Shure SM57 SM58, misc condensers

Q: Can we record “live drums?”
A: If you mean acoustic drums, no. We are fully equipped with a Roland V-Series electric drum kit with unlimited custom virtual instruments that sound just like “live” drums or electronic drums. For projects that require a “live” drum kit, we generally secure time at another studio partner in town.

Q: Do I need to have my song “finished” before I schedule time to record?
A: Not at all. Most of what we do starts with a partial idea of a song. Some are more complete than others. If you have your lyrics or a lead/chord sheet typed up and share them with us, that’s helpful.

Q: Can I use someone else’s beat or karaoke track?
A: It depends. If you are making your song for personal use (ie., not commercially released for profit, published, etc.) generally it is considered fair use. Note that if the work has a copyright holder, they may flag you on YouTube and social media if you did not secure the rights to the song. Our production team is really good about replacing “youtube” beats/music with new, original instrumentation that can be used freely without paying royalties.

Q: Can I record and publish a cover song (recorded by another artist)?
A: If we do not use any of the original song’s instrumentation (meaning we create all new material), yes. We can help you secure the permissions/rights to legally publish a cover song everywhere.

Q: Can you master my work?
A: Yes, we have mastering engineers.

Q: Can you help me publish my works to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, etc,?
A: Yes. The BentBeat team is fully up on all of the publishing rules and methods.

Q: Is my original work protected by copyright?
A: Technically as soon as you write or record something, it is copyright protected. It’s really about proving it with documentation, which we can provide. If you need additional help with Library of Congress or PROs (ASCAP, BMI, SEASAC, CCLI), we can assist there as well.

Q: Do I have to identify the session musicians or producer(s) on my songwriting or recording credits?
If you are independently releasing your material, there are no rules regarding this (but it is considered good practice). If you are releasing material under the BentBeat label, we will help manage this.

Q: Is a producer considered a co-writer?
A: It depends. Generally, producers will suggest changes as a part of their role (like a director coaching an actor for dialog). It doesn’t necessarily mean they need to be listed as a co-writer. Usually, it’s pretty clear when a work moves into being “co-written.” If you need clarification, just ask.

Q: Are there drinks available at the studio?
A: We have an assortment of hot and cold drinks available including coffee. There is a donation box to the collective drink “fund” if you feel so inclined.

Q: What fast food is nearby?
A: Subway, Pizza Schmizza Pub Grill, Burger King, Costco, Target, Panda Express, Café Yumm

Q: Can I video or take photos?
A: Yes! There is a ring light and tripod available too. Please do tag us on your social media posts @bentbeat

Q: Can I get copies of my songs on a physical media (CD, thumb drive, portable hard disk)?
A: If you bring your own media, we can copy your material onto anything. We often have blank CD’s on hand. We will also send you an electronic link to your works in an email.

Q: Can I invite guests to come with me?
A: We love having guests join. We have a couch and a chair that guests usually can hang out on and not feel in the way.

Q: You guys are a lot of fun – do you ever have a jam session?
A: If you’re looking to collaborate with other BentBeat artists and musicians, we have a Thirsty Third Thursday Open Jam Night the third Thursday of every month at 7:30pm. It’s free and open to everyone.

Q: Is there security in the building?
A: There is video surveillance throughout the building for your safety and protection, and outside doors automatically electronically lock after hours.

Q: What are the studio rates?
A: Studio time with one producer/engineer Monday-Friday rate is $65/hr, Weekends (Fri evening thru Sunday evening), Holidays, etc. is $85/hr. Additional producers and session musicians available and quoted ahead of time.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: Business checks and all credit/debit cards are accepted.

Q: Do you have WiFi in the studio?
A: Free WiFi is available
