These aren’t factory chickens. They’re out ranging, within a fenced run daily, listening, weather and schedule permitting, as I read almost daily, to ancient myths (Joseph Campbell’s The Hero With a Thousand Faces, Egyptian mythology, and more). They eat fermented layer feed (with apple cider vinegar, baking soda, scratch, crushed corn, and oyster/eggshell grit for strong shells), plus treats like peppers, wheat grass, and grubs. I collect eggs throughout the day and keep them safe and dry.
