Small multi-specialty surgery center in SW Portland seeking an experienced and talented Nurse Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate must possess at least 3-5 years of leadership experience in an outpatient setting (preferably ASC). This is a full-time, salaried position with great health insurance, 401k and generous PTO. Monday thru Friday schedule with NO WEEKENDS!
The Nurse Manager directs all clinical and support services staff. Functions as a member of the administrative management team in all aspects of the Center's management.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
A. Clinical Operations
As part of the administrative management team, collaborates to ensure personnel policy development and communication to staff.
Participates in all aspects of patient care when needed. Serves as hands-on manager.
Develops, in conjunction with the Medical Director and other staff, proper clinical protocols that ensure patient safety, comfort, and quality.
With the Medical Director, develops appropriate admission and discharge procedures and assures that pre-admission criteria are appropriately met.
Assists Administrator in preparing and following the annual operating budget, ensuring that supplies and staffing costs are within approved goals and targets; reports variances and makes adjustments as recommended/necessary.
Assists in data collection for financial and business analysis as necessary.
Researches and prepares annual cost reduction strategies and implements them as applicable.
Standardizes equipment and supplies when appropriate.
Directs materials manager, closely managing costs and inventory levels of all supplies used in the center.
As part of the administrative management team, negotiates pricing on equipment and supplies.
Oversees physician block time, ensuring effective utilization. Works closely with the Administrator and Medical Executive Committee to maximize efficient use of resources while accommodating referring providers.
Evaluates ongoing patient care and immediately reports significant problems to the Administrator and Medical Director
As part of administrative management team, plans, recommends, initiates, implements and evaluates new initiatives.
Responsible for adequate clinical staffing, administrating the weekly schedule to ensure that appropriate clinical personnel are available for all scheduled cases. Monitors the schedule frequently to make any adjustments as necessary.
Assists with activities related to clinical recordkeeping. Ensures that clinical records are complete and accurately entered into the EMR within a timely manner.
B. Human Resource Management
Regularly collaborates with Administrator and Office Manager to ensure regular goals and issues are begin adequately addressed.
Promotes team approach to patient care and facility operations.
As part of administrative management team, works with the Administrator to develop center goals. Communicates these goals to clinical staff.
Works closely with Administrator, Office Manager and Medical Director, to ensure smooth operations within a cooperative environment.
Assures regular educational programs for maintenance of strong clinical skills among clinical staff. Provides in-service opportunities to staff and promotes a culture of learning and growth for all clinical personnel.
Implements cross training of clinical staff to ensure proper staffing and utilization.
Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, orients, evaluates and counsels clinical staff to ensure clinical staff exemplifies the vision and mission of the center. Notifies Administrator of significant problems as appropriate.
Oversees orientation for new clinical staff, including temporary and per diem, to ensure quality of care, patient safety and a consistent experience for providers.
Develops clinical policies, procedures, and processes which promote efficient utilization of clinical staff and facility resources.
Develops, maintains and adjusts clinical staffing model to meet the health care needs of patients. After implementation, assures labor productivity targets are met. All variances are reported and justified to the Administrator.
C. Quality Assessment Program Improvement (QAPI), Medical Executive Committee and Patient Satisfaction
With Administrator, responsible for ongoing quality improvement (QI) programs in accordance with State and Federal laws as well as applicable accreditation standards.
With the Medical Director, assures that quality patient care is delivered through the administration of QI monitoring and benchmarking.
Collects clinical data and produces QI reports for quarterly meetings with the Medical Executive and QAPI committees.
As part of QI, reviews all satisfaction surveys to measure and continually improve patient satisfaction and quality of care. Contacts patients as appropriate, and monitors follow-up actions as necessary.
Applies QI techniques to improve overall performance of clinical departments.
Develops and maintains monitoring system to assure physician satisfaction.
Ensures that all clinical processes meet and /or exceed all regulatory agency guidelines.
With the appropriate training, provides conscious sedation under the authority of an approved supervising physician.
Serves as Infection Control Nurse; responsible for gathering and reporting Infection Control data.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, preferably with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
License: Current State of Oregon Nursing License. Current ACLS certification.
Experience: 3-5 years previous nursing management experience, preferably in an Ambulatory Surgery Center setting.
Minimal knowledge, skills and abilities required:
Demonstrated management skills, professional attitude and leadership ability.
Demonstrated ability to provide patient care in Pre-op, Operating Room and PACU as part of the clinical team.
Knowledge of accepted standards (AORN, State, Federal, AAAHC). Ability to interpret these into policy for the ambulatory surgery center and to educate staff regarding these policies.
Strong decision-making and organization skills. Ability to work independently.
Ability to appraise and evaluate situations and to plan and recommend alternative courses of action.
Adaptability to change and the ability to implement change.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Proficient in knowledge and use of computers and modern EMR software.
Ability to review, analyze, and manage based on statistical data
Ability to prepare comprehensive reports.
