DAY PORTER POSITION AVAILABLE, 30+HR/WEEK
Seeking self-directed, initiative-taking individual for day porter maintenance position, doing commercial property clean-up and light maintenance duties in this self-directed yet supervised 30+ hour a week position that may increase to 40-hours per week with positive performance and training.
The day porter position available at Portland Day Porters is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the buildings, landscaping, parking lots, trash enclosures and amenity areas (laundry room, exercise center, dog park, mailrooms, etc.) at several apartment complexes and commercial buildings throughout the Portland metro area.
Day Porter Maintenance Technicians are often unseen or little-seen workers at shopping centers, malls, and other commercial properties. Day Porters do more than clean; they uphold the image of a property and ensure the place of business is a place employees enjoy coming to, and where customers want to frequent. A Day Porter helps this happen by making sure the property looks nice, clean, and is consistently in good repair. These important technicians provide property management with an invaluable service that keeps both customers and tenants happy.
Day Porters are tasked with making sure the parking lots are clean. They sweep/clean the lots on a scheduled basis to clear debris. If an issue with the parking lot arises, such as cracks or potholes in the asphalt, or broken curbs, the Day Porter notifies his supervisor or contacts property management directly so repairs can be made as soon as possible.
Sidewalks and Trash
Sidewalks and walkways at commercial properties continually accumulate trash and other debris that must be cleaned away regularly in order to maintain a best first impression. Day porters replace trash liners and clear debris from dumpster areas. They also power wash sidewalks or building exteriors as needed to remove stains and graffiti. Day Porters clean ashtrays and replace ash-sand as needed. Other tasks include sidewalk services including wiping down and cleaning of all company property located on the sidewalk such as newspaper dispensers, benches, window sills, and handrails.
Exterior planter beds lend color and visual appeal to outdoor commercial spaces. Day Porters make sure the planter beds are properly maintained. Day Porters may water the flowers or set/check the electronic irrigation schedule, clear the planter beds of trash, or place mulch as requested around plants. Day porters note broken or damaged landscaping support items such as irrigation lines or landscape lighting. If broken or non-functional items exist in the planter beds, the Day Porter will attend to the replacement or repair of the sprinkler heads or replace light bulbs needing replacement in the landscape lighting.
There is a lot of building maintenance that goes into the management of a commercial property. Property managers rely on day porters to address small and medium cosmetic issues occurring at properties and to have the Day Porter apprise them of any larger issues in a timely manner needing to be addressed by a trade-specific repair service. Day Porters clean the exterior of the building at regular intervals, including power washing and removing or covering graffiti. Day Porters may also paint the building and repair damaged or chipped trim work.
Additional skills/experience in the following areas are preferred, but not required: power washing, window washing, painting, and other general maintenance tasks.
