The Buyer/Planner has the primary responsibility of ensuring material availability to support the production schedule. The Buyer/Planner is also responsible for procuring material at the best combination of cost, quality and availability. The position is further responsible for managing outsourced production to contract manufacturers (CM’s) as well as inventory control both on site and off site.
•Initiate purchase orders and revisions for parts and services; arrange for submission and inspection of sample products as required; maintain close coordination with the Engineered Solutions team to ensure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.
•Secure and analyze supplier quotations, negotiate prices and terms with suppliers, recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality and availability/schedule.
•Manage performance of CM’s. Specifically, how they are performing from a price, quality and availability/schedule perspective. If CM’s are not performing well, communicate that to the Engineered Solutions team.
•When current CM’s are not meeting the company’s expectations, research, interview and confer with prospective CM’s to determine capabilities. Obtain quotes from qualified CM’s and present to the Engineered Solutions team for evaluation.
•Perform full or cycle counts of Engineered Solutions inventory when needed. Reconcile physical counts with counts in the company’s ERP (SysPro). Make adjustments as needed to SysPro and communicate any part shortages to Engineered Solutions.
•Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of potential problems.
•Determine and establish optimum inventory levels based on forecast, demand variation and material lead times.
•Coordinate material flows through product/BOM changes, obsolescence and the introduction of new suppliers and/or materials due to new product development.
•Provide backup support for other supply chain functions including shipping, receiving, material handling and other duties as assigned.
•Collaborate with internal customers and provide a high level of customer service, including recommending solutions, resources and alternative supply options.
•Collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds in order to identify problems and find solutions.
•Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, related field and/or relevant experience in a buyer/planner or supply chain role.
•Proficient with MS Office suite; advanced skills with MS Excel
•Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
•Excellent organization, communication and follow-up skills
•Able to influence others and manage conflict
•Ability to self-direct and take constructive action in ambiguous situations
